HAMILTON –
Colgate's special teams were in terrific form Saturday as the No. 4 Raiders completed a weekend sweep with a 4-1 victory over Dartmouth.

The Raiders scored three power-play goals and allowed just one visitors tally – on a funky carom in the closing minutes. It came on Dartmouth's seventh power play of the afternoon and halted Colgate's streak of 23 consecutive penalty kills without allowing a goal.

Colgate earned power play goals from Bailey Larson (Sycamore, Illinois), Annika Zalewski (New Hartford, New York) and Shelby Perry (Elginburg, Ontario), with Perry adding another score in 5-on-5 play. Perry's second period assist gave the senior three points on consecutive afternoons and a three-goal, three-assist weekend.

Larson's goal from close range made it 1-0 Raiders 6:41 into the opening frame. Breanne Wilson-Bennett (Markham, Ontario) and Megan Sullivan (Toronto, Ontario) picked up the assists. Perry scored on the power play six minutes later to make it 2-0, rifling a shot from the left faceoff circle into the upper right netting. Zalewski and Coralie Larose (Embrun, Ontario) earned the assists there.

32504Colgate made it 3-0 midway in the second period with a beautiful ABC connection. Perry on the left wing found Shae Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) behind the goal line, and Labbe one-timed it right onto the stick of Zalewski in the slot. The senior didn't miss for her fifth goal of the season.

It became 4-0 when Perry corralled a pass from Lauren Wildfang (Waterdown, Ontario) in the Raiders zone and found Labbe streaking up the right side. Perry then raced down ice and was on the doorstep for Labbe's perfectly placed assist to an easy tap-in at 15:14 of the third.

Colgate in the first and second periods killed off a pair of 5-on-3 disadvantages. The second-period kill was so effective that Dartmouth didn't attempt a single shot on goal.

From there, the Raiders appeared headed for their fifth shutout of the season. But Dartmouth's Alyssa Baker jumped on a bad bounce from the corner and poked the puck past Colgate goalkeeper Julia Vandyk with just 1:13 on the game clock.

From the Source
32505Colgate head coach Greg Fargo: (On the game) "That one felt good. Right from the start, the team played really well. This weekend was another example of getting everybody involved in the games and everybody stepping up and playing the right way for the most part. It was nice to see our power play get going; that was a big part of the game. We made some small tweaks and they responded really well.

"It was right down to the wire there for the shutout, and it's unfortunate for Julia because she played a great game."

(On special teams) "A big part of the focus coming into today was to improve on the power play, and they responded. The power play has to win you games down the stretch, and we were able to make a difference in that area today."

(On Shelby Perry) "It's the best we've seen her play. She's playing free and making plays. Just a really smart player when she's out there who makes everybody else better. She's been able to finish a few times this weekend, which is nice. Hopefully, she can keep it going and that line can keep it going. We're a tough team to play against when we get everybody working on offense like that."

32508(On killing two 5-on-3s) "Anytime there's a 5-on-3, there's going to be a momentum swing one way or the other. I credit our kill. They hung on, our goaltender made some saves and the momentum swing went our direction."

(On Tuesday's Kids Day) "Three games in five days is a challenge but it will be a great test for us to see if we can put this behind us and get ready to play. It should be a ton of fun with all of the kids in the stands, and hopefully that will be the difference getting our group up for it."
