Peterson Nets Two Goals at Rensselaer

Second Two-Goal Game of Season for Peterson in 5-2 Loss to Engineers

TROY, N.Y. – Evan Peterson (Lakeville, Minnesota) potted his second two-goal game of the season Friday night but it wasn't enough as the Colgate men's ice hockey team fell to the Rensselaer Engineers, 5-2, at Houston Field House.

It was Peterson's first two-goal game since he scored two against the UConn Huskies on Oct. 14 and also goes down as the fourth two-point game of his career.

Despite picking up the loss, goaltender Charlie Finn (North Vancouver, British Columbia) passed Mark Dekanich '08 with his 119th career game played for the most by a goaltender in program history.

The Engineers took a 1-0 lead 3:46 into the first period on Lou Nanne's third goal of the season. After rushing into the offensive zone, Brady Wiffen dropped a pass for Nanne in the slot who wristed the shot past Finn's glove side for the goal.

Peterson knotted up the score early in the second period to make it 1-1. After Bobby McMann (Wainwright, Alberta) skated the puck into the offensive zone. After the puck found John Snodgrass (Eagan, Minnesota), he had a shot saved but McMann tapped the rebound back to Peterson whose shot deflected of Rensselaer goaltender Chase Perry for the goal.

Rensselaer reclaimed a 2-1 lead with 13:57 left in the second period and two seconds left in their power play on Evan Tironese's fifth goal. Tironese skated into the right circle on a breakaway and rifled home the goal.

The Raiders tied up the game once again with a power-play goal of their own thanks to Peterson's second goal of the game. Jake Kulevich (Marblehead, Massachusetts) worked the puck across the blue line to Willie Brooks (Locust, New Jersey) where his shot was blocked by a Rensselaer defender. The puck went right to Peterson who wristed home the equalizer.

One minute after an incredible windmill save by Finn, the Engineers reclaimed a one-goal lead with 1:36 to go in the second period as Tironese put home his second of the game with a wraparound goal to Finn's left to make it 3-2.

Rensselaer extended its lead to 4-2 with 5:24 left in the 3rd period as Viktor Liljegren raced up the left wall and beating a Colgate defender before putting home his sixth of the season before the Engineers picked up an empty net goal late in the game.
