Raiders Fall 1-0 to Cornell

Colgate slightly edged in second game of ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals

Ithaca, N.Y.-  The Colgate women's ice hockey team took on #7 Cornell University in the second game of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals this afternoon in Lynah Rink. It was a hard fought battle, but the Raiders ultimately fell by a score of 1-0.

The first period was fairly even, with Colgate slightly outshooting the Big Red, 6-5. Both teams saw a power play opportunity that yielded several good looks, but neither could find the back of the net.

The Raiders upped the offensive pressure in the opening five minutes of the second frame but Paula Voorheis was able to make a few key saves to keep it knotted at 0-0.

Cornell's Amy Curlew netted a power play goal just under nine minutes into the second to take a 1-0 lead.

Colgate came out hot in the third period, looking to get on the board with the equalizer. They saw several great chances but were not able to find the back of the net.

With less than one minute remaining in regulation, the Raiders pulled Julia Vandyk (Cambridge, Ont.) for an extra attacker and continued to fire shots on the Cornell goal. The Big Red defense was able to hold on though, to secure the 1-0 victory.

Netminder Vandyk made 16 stops in net for Colgate, while Voorheis recorded 29 saves.

The Raiders end the season with 22 wins for the second season in a row, which is a program record and also qualified for the ECAC Hockey playoffs in back to back seasons for the first time since 2008-09 and 2009-10.
