BUFFALO, N.Y. – Paul Meyer (Edina, Minnesota) and
Trevor Cosgrove (Exeter, New Hampshire) each scored their first career goals Saturday night as the Colgate men's ice hockey team tied the Canisius Golden Griffins, 3-3, in overtime at HarborCenter.
Meyer and Cosgrove each scored their goals in Colgate's dominant third period, outscoring Canisius 3-1 in the middle frame. Sophomore
Bobby McMann (Wainwright, Alberta) also scored for the Raiders to complete that third period attack.
The second period got off to a ferocious start as Canisius' Jesse Pereira kicked off the scoring just 1:10 into the period with a power-play goal to take a 1-0 lead.
Canisius' lead was very short-lived as McMann evened up the game 18 seconds later.
Nick Austin (St. Louis Park, Minnesota) worked the puck to McMann who skated around the goal and shuffled the puck into the net.
The game was tied for the next 14 minutes until Meyer found the back of the net for the first time to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead off a feed from
Tyler Jeanson (Carman, Manitoba) who also picked up his first career assist.
Colgate doubled its lead less than a minute later when Cosgrove got his first career goal off a feed from
Jared Cockrell (Readfield, Maine) as the Raiders claimed a 3-1 lead with 3:37 to go in the second period.
Canisius stormed back in the third period as they netted another power-play goal just 34 seconds into the frame to cut Colgate's lead to one. The Golden Griffins managed to tie the game with 59.6 seconds left. Initially the referees signaled no goal on the ice, resulting in continued play that led to a Colgate empty-net goal. But after a review, Canisius was credited with the game-tying goal where the team's ultimately tied, 3-3.
BOTTOM LINE
