Colgate Battles No. 1 Quinnipiac Saturday

Citron, Harrison and Murphy Score for Raiders against Bobcats Saturday in Hamden

HAMDEN, Conn. –Top-ranked Quinnipiac scored three power-play goals to hold off upset-minded Colgate, 6-3, in ECAC Hockey action Saturday at High Point Solutions Arena.
 
The Bobcats tallied a man-advantage goal in each period to extend its unbeaten streak to 10 games (6-0-4) and remain undefeated in league play at 12-0-4.
 
Sam Anas notched the first of his two goals just 5:09 into the contest, burying a one-timer from the middle of the slot during a power-play opportunity to stake Quinnipiac to an early 1-0 lead.
 
The two teams then combined for four goals during a back-and-forth second period.
 
Ken Citron tied the game at 1-1 with a slap shot from the top of the left faceoff circle just 2:57 in, only to see Connor Clifton restore the Bobcats lead less than two minutes later.
 
Tim Harrison brought the Raiders level for a second time in the period, putting home a carom off the end boards with 6:57 elapsed, but Luke Shiplo's power-play strike with a little more than five minutes to play in the period gave Quinnipiac a 3-2 lead heading into the third.
 
Landon Smith tallied the Bobcats' third and final power-play goal of the evening with 13:27 gone in the final frame to make it a 4-2 contest.
 
The two teams traded breakaway goals less than a minute apart later in the period. Anas scored his second goal of the evening with 3:11 remaining to expand the Quinnipiac margin to three, but Darcy Murphy counted just 53 seconds later to keep Colgate within striking distance at 5-3.
 
Devon Toews closed out the scoring with an empty-net marker in the final minute.
 
Michael Garteig made 32 saves in goal for Quinnipiac. Charlie Finn finished with 36 stops between the pipes for Colgate.

- Jake Kulevich recorded the primary assist on Harrison's goal, his fifth helper of the weekend. Harrison now leads Colgate's defensemen in scoring with 13 points (3g,10a).
- Tim Harrison tallied his seventh goal of the season with his second-period marker. Five of his seven goals this season have come during league play.

- Quinnipiac out-shot Colgate, 42-35, for the contest. The Bobcats held the edge in shots during the first two periods (18-13 and 15-9) while the Raiders posted a 13-9 margin in the third.
- Quinnipiac was 3-for-5 on the power play while Colgate was 0-for-5 with the man advantage. The Bobcats recorded 17 shots during its 8:27 of power play time while the Raiders attempted eight shots in 7:46 with the extra skater.
- Quinnipiac held a 42-30 edge in faceoffs. Mike Borkowski led the Raiders with 10 wins in 21 tries at the dot.

"I thought we competed really hard tonight, even in the third. I know we gave up a couple of goals in the third period, but I really liked our battle. I thought we had some good chances. Garteig made some good stops when they needed him to. It certainly wasn't a 6-3 game in my mind."
