HAMILTON – No. 10 Colgate hosted No. 5 Clarkson in a battle of nationally ranked opponents Saturday afternoon but unfortunately the Raiders dropped a 3-2 decision.
The Raiders welcomed Clarkson to Starr Rink but saw the visitors score three unanswered goals to steal the win. The two teams went into Saturday's game in a tie for third place in the ECAC Hockey standings. With the contest's final outcome, the Golden Knights shifted into a two-way tie for second, while Colgate dropped into a tie with Harvard for fourth.
The Raiders struck first with just under eight minutes left in the opening period on a power play goal.
Shelby Perry recorded the marker for her seventh tally of the season with help from classmate
Annika Zalewski.
Taking its one-goal edge into the break, Colgate came out and scored just 48 seconds into the second frame to create a gap between the teams.
Megan Sullivan earned the goal, while
Breanne Wilson-Bennett and
Bailey Larson picked up the assists.

Clarkson returned the favor, though, with two goals of its own during the middle period from Rhyen McGill and Genevieve Bannon to knot the score at 2-all.
Both teams started the final frame fighting for that go-ahead goal but it was Clarkson that capitalized 5:14 into the period when Bannon registered her second tally of the game.
Despite several great scoring opportunities from Colgate in the remainder of the frame, the Raiders couldn't find the needed equalizer, handing them just their third loss in league play.
Julia Vandyk posted 25 saves between the pipes for Colgate. The loss marked the first of her young career and she now sits with a record of 9-1-3.
The Raiders are on the road next weekend with games at Rensselaer and Union. They face the Engineers on Friday before meeting up with the Dutchwomen on Saturday. Both games are slated for 3 p.m. starts
Live stats will be available at the start of both contest.

How It Happened• Colgate took the one-goal lead 12 minutes into the game when sophomore Perry netted the game's opening tally. Her attempt beat Shea Tiley glove side, handing the Raiders the early edge.
• Sitting on the 1-0 lead, Sullivan wasted no time adding on when she made it a two-goal margin less than a minute into the second period. Larson started the play by knocking the puck loose from a defender in the Clarkson offensive zone. The first-year passed it over to Wilson-Bennett who cleared it up to Sullivan. The Toronto, Ontario native shot from the right faceoff circle and saw the puck sail past Tiley and into the back of the net.
• Clarkson answered five minutes later to cut into the Raider lead at 2-1.
• Then 14:50 into the middle frame, the Golden Knights knotted the score when they intercepted the puck at center ice and sparked a breakaway opportunity.
• Despite several great saves by Vandyk in the third, Clarkson managed to sneak one in early to pull in front 3-2. The Raiders rattled off good scoring chances in the remaining time, but couldn't find the equalizer.

Head coach Greg Fargo (on the game) "We knew tonight was going to be a tight game and it certainly was a good game against a good ECAC Hockey opponent.
"I thought we did enough to win the game but came out on the wrong end of it. Our goaltending was great once again, as were our special teams. We had a tough time getting into their zone and establishing play down there 5-on-5.
"We're going to put all our focus and energy on getting ourselves prepared for next weekend."
Up Next • The Raiders are back in action Friday and Saturday when they travel to Rensselaer and Union. Puck drop is slated for 3 p.m. on both days.
