Racine, Hamilton Help Colgate Earn Tie

Underclassmen Spark Raiders to 2-2 Draw Against Nationally Ranked Engineers Saturday

TROY, N.Y. – Hunter Racine scored two goals and Zac Hamilton made 37 saves to lead Colgate to a 2-2 tie at No. 20 RPI in ECAC Hockey action Saturday at Houston Field House.

Following a scoreless first period, RPI took a 1-0 lead at the 4:59 mark of the second. After forcing a turnover in the Colgate zone, Tommy Grant beat Hamilton with a wrist shot from the right point for his second goal of the season.

Colgate drew level a little less than 10 minutes later as Racine capitalized during a goalmouth scramble by knocking home the loose puck to make it a 1-1 contest.

RPI regained its one-goal lead midway through the third period when Milos Bubela completed an individual rush to make it a 2-1 game with 11:19 gone in the final frame.

Racine brought the Raiders level once again with his second of the evening a little less than five minutes later. Collecting a loose puck in front of the RPI net, Racine slid the puck past Engineers keeper Jason Kasdorf to tie the game at 2-2.

The Engineers held a 39-22 shot advantage for the contest, but Hamilton made double-digit saves in all three periods to keep Colgate close. Kasdorf recorded 20 stops between the pipes for RPI.

"I was really proud of our guys tonight with how hard they worked with such a short bench. We're getting some huge individual efforts from guys. We had a couple of chances at the end to try and get the win. We had the one goal called back, we hit a couple of posts, it certainly could have bounced our way tonight. I was happy with the effort."
