HAMILTON - The Colgate women's ice hockey team had a strong showing in their exhibition match with Queen's on Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders won in convincing fashion with a 7-0 shutout over the Gaels. The Raiders were lead by first-year
Olivia Zafuto and
Breanne Wilson-Bennett, who both tallied two goals in the contest. Ironically, both student-athletes registered both of their goals in one period each.
Colgate got on the board five minutes into the contest with the only goal of the opening period. Sophomore
Annika Zalewski capitalized on a rebound after
Shae Labbe fired an initial attempt. Zafuto also notched an assist on the goal.
Colgate continued its offensive dominance by adding three more goals in the second period. Zafuto tallied two, while
Kaila Pinkney recorded one. Zalewski,
Hannah Rastrick, and Labbe were credited with the assists.
The final frame saw three more Raider goals, two by Wilson-Bennett and one by senior captain
Katelyn Parker. Eldridge, Labbe, Rastrick, and
Shelby Perry all picked up helpers on Colgate's closing tallies.
Julia Vandyk,
Megan DuBois, and
Ashlynne Rando split time between the pipes for the Raiders, all making key saves to keep Queen's from getting on the board.
The Raiders are back in action at Starr Rink for their season-opening weekend against Robert Morris on Friday and Saturday. Game times are slated for 7 and 4 p.m., respectively.
Live stats and video will be available at the start of each game.
