Borkowski Sends Raiders Back to Lake Placid

Junior Mike Borkowski Scored 2:53 Into the Third Period to Lead Colgate to a 3-2 Victory Over Dartmouth Saturday

HAMILTON – Junior Mike Borkowski scored 2:53 into the third period to break a 2-2 tie and lift fourth-seeded Colgate to a 3-2 victory over fifth-seeded Dartmouth in game two of an ECAC Hockey quarterfinal round series Saturday at Starr Rink.

With the win, the Raiders sweep the best-of-three series from the Big Green and advance to championship weekend, set for March 20-21 at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid.

Borkowski scored the eventual game-winning goal just before the three-minute mark of the third on a feed from sophomore Jake Kulevich, who finished the series with three assists.

The Big Green had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds of regulation, but a shot from Dartmouth's Tyler Sikura slid across the goalmouth before being swept out of harms way by a Colgate defender to secure the one-goal triumph.

The Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to goals from senior Spiro Goulakos and junior Kyle Baun. Dartmouth battled back to tie the game at 2-2 in the second with tallies from Sikura and Nick Bligh.

Sophomore Charlie Finn made 32 saves for Colgate while James Kruger turned aside 20 shots for Dartmouth.
