HAMILTON – Colgate had a two-goal advantage heading into the third period but a late rally by No. 9 Cornell sent the game into overtime.
The Raiders ultimately dropped the contest 3-2 to their nationally ranked foe, making it their third extra time contest with the Big Red in the last six meetings.
Colgate tallied the game's opening goal with 32 second remaining in the first period when
Melissa Kueber netted her eighth goal of the season.
Kaila Pinkney tallied her first career point went she fed the puck up the senior
Miriam Drubel on the wing. Drubel then found Kueber, who wrapped around a Cornell defender before blasting one past the Big Red netminder for the tally.
The Raiders then made it 2-0 when
Breanne Wilson-Bennett found the back of the net on a rebound with three minutes left to play in the middle frame.
Kayla Haus and
Katie Case worked the puck around the blue line before Haus tried her luck on goal. The Big Red's goalie Paula Voorheis came up with the initial save but wasn't able to fall on the puck fast enough as Wilson-Bennett slid one home.
Unfortunately, Colgate would see its visitors cut into the lead at the 13:26 mark of the third period.
Then with the clock winding down the Raiders were called for hooking, awarding the Big Red an extra skater with 1:21 left. Cornell took the opportunity to pull its goalie to make it six Big Red skaters on four Colgate defenders. That move worked out for the No. 9 team in the nation as they recorded the game-tying goal 13 seconds later.
With neither team notching the game-winner in the final seconds of regulation the contest was forced into overtime.
Two minutes into extra time the Raiders were called for a penalty, handing Cornell another man-up advantage. The Big Red were able to find the back of the net when Emily Fulton converted on her third goal of the night to seal the come-from-behind victory.
Colgate is back in action this weekend when it heads to Princeton and No. 5 Quinnipiac beginning on Friday at 7 p.m.

Straight From The Source•
Head coach Greg Fargo (on his team jumping out to a two-goal lead on their nationally ranked foe): "It really couldn't have gone any better for us. The first 40 minutes was good hockey with it being back-and-forth. They controlled the play at times, as did we."
"Our goalie came up with some huge saves early on to keep us in the game. And we were opportunistic with our opportunities. That was the game plan we set forth and we played it. It was going our way and it was great to see. It's always good to get that start."
