HAMILTON –
Shelby Perry tallied a late equalizing goal to help Colgate Women's Ice Hockey earn a point against Union in the teams' ECAC Hockey opener here Friday afternoon.

Perry netted the tying goal with 56 seconds remaining in regulation to ultimately secure the Raiders a 2-2 draw.

Colgate found itself down twice throughout the game but managed to fight its way back each time.

After going down by a goal early in the contest, Jessie Eldridge knotted things up when she teamed up with Lauren Wildfang to sneak one past the Union netminder Melissa Black.21595

Black, who finished with an impressive 58 saves, kept the Dutchwomen within striking distance throughout much of the contest. A flurry of those stops came in the final period when the Raiders were in search of the tying goal for the second time. Following a scrum in front of the net, Black managed to deflect two great looks from Megan Sullivan and another from Bailey Larson.

Union jumped out in front just five minutes into the contest when Jacyn Reeves fired a shot over Ashlynne Rando's glove-side shoulder.

Colgate then turned up its offensive pressure generating great scoring chances, including an attempt from Cat Quirion midway through the first period. Quirion's shot ricocheted off the post though, keeping the Dutchwomen on top by one.

Eldridge managed to tie the game 13:18 into the period, sending the teams into the first intermission knotted at 1-1.

The second frame was again swayed in favor of Colgate, as the Raiders' held the shot advantage at 17-8, but it was the visitors who recorded a goal.21596

Down 2-1 heading into the final period, the Raiders held the Dutchwomen to just four shots in the frame, while they rattled off 21.

Of those Colgate shots was Perry's game-tying goal with 56 seconds remaining. After Union was called for hooking, the Raiders were awarded a power play. To add an extra skater on the already man-up advantage, Colgate pulled Rando to make for a six-on-four opportunity. The Dutchwomen nearly killed off the power play but Perry's driven shot from the back side was no match for Black.
