HAMILTON – Colgate women's hockey did not have any shortage on goals here Saturday afternoon as it exploded to shutout Robert Morris 6-0.
The Raiders saw first-year
Shae Labbe and sophomore
Breanne Wilson-Bennett tally four of those goals with both student-athletes netting two.
Annika Zalewski and
Jessie Eldridge also grabbed their first of the season, while Eldridge's was the first of her career.
Colgate jumped out early, scoring in the first four minutes after Zalewski found the back of the net on a rebound. Despite some more solid chances from the home team, the Raiders went into the first intermission only up by one.
That didn't last long, however, as Colgate scored three quick goals within nearly five minutes of each other, to begin the middle frame. The rookies went to work with Labbe scoring back-to-back goals at the 2:02 and 5:39 mark, followed by Eldridge's tally at 7:14.
Wilson-Bennett closed out the period with her first of the game, thanks to a great feed from
Nicole Gass and
Lauren Wildfang.
The Markham, Ontario, native then iced the contest for the Raiders with another score five minutes into the final period.
Ashlynne Rando was brilliant in net for Colgate, pushing aside 31 shots for her first shutout of the season. She was also critical in helping the Raiders' kill off eight power play opportunities.

Colgate has some time off before traveling to Providence and Connecticut on Oct. 17-18 for two more nonconference games. The Raiders face the Friars on Saturday before meeting up with the Huskies on Sunday. Both games are slated for 2 p.m. puck drops.

From The Source•
Head coach Greg Fargo (on how important it was to start the season with a series sweep) "It's really important. For us, we talked about it in the off-season, how important it was to get off to a good start. We played a really gritty team this weekend in Robert Morris but I liked the way we played all weekend. We did a lot of great things."
"This is a really young but focused group we have and everyday they get a little bit more used to college hockey. I like the way we responded in today's game. While we won last night there were some areas of our game that we wanted to clean up. I thought we did a nice job with that today."
Up Next• The Raiders have some time off before next taking the ice on Oct. 17-18. Colgate heads to Providence on that Saturday followed by a contest at Connecticut on Sunday. Both games are scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
