HAMILTON –
Two middle period goals were all Colgate needed as it secured a 2-0 shutout over nearby rival Syracuse here Tuesday night.

The Raiders saw Melissa Kueber and Lauren Wildfang add to their career goals total with each tallying a marker in the game.

Kueber broke the deadlock nearly nine minutes into the second frame when she converted on a power play opportunity. After Syracuse was called for cross-checking Nicole Gass and Breanne Wilson-Bennett teamed up to find Kueber in front of the net. The senior captain was then able to slide it past the Orange netminder, Jenn Gilligan, for the 1-0 advantage.

Four minutes later the Raiders notched an insurance marker after Wildfang fired a low shot from the point through traffic and into the back of the net. Miriam Drubel and Annika Zalewski were awarded assists on the play.

Ashlynne Rando was solid between the pipes for the Raiders notching 29 stops, including a game-high 13 in the middle frame alone. The junior added two incredible saves in that period as well to keep her shutout alive.

The Raiders now shift their attention back to conference play, which resumes this weekend. Colgate is set to host No. 8 Clarkson on Friday at 7 p.m. before welcoming St. Lawrence on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both games are slated for Starr Rink.

Straight From The Source
Head coach Greg Fargo (on his overall thoughts from the game): "It was big win for us. We talked with the team between periods and the message was to go out and continue to do what we've been doing that gave us success in the first 40 minutes of the game. I give our team a lot of credit; we hung on and played exceptionally well in the third period when things got a little hairy. We just stuck to our system and the way we wanted to play. Ultimately it was nice to get rewarded with a win.

(on how this win will help his team heading back into league play this weekend) "It's huge. If anyone looks at our results we've been on the losing end too many times this year but we played really well tonight and hopefully this will continue."

"We talked about it yesterday in a team meeting how with one game you play well and get rewarded with the win and then all of a sudden we all start to believe again. We start to understand what it takes to be successful on a night-to-night basis."

"Overall, I'm just so happy we stuck to our game plan for a full 60 minutes, happy we got rewarded with the win and to be honest I don't think it matters about who's coming into town this week. Our team is feeling good in themselves and they just want to pick up where they left off here tonight."

Up Next
• The Raiders host No. 8 Clarkson and St. Lawrence this weekend for two more ECAC Hockey contests.
• The game with the Golden Knights will be Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a contest with the Saints on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both matchups are scheduled for Starr Rink.
