PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Colgate women's hockey team, led by junior
Taylor Craig, notched its second league win of the year thanks to a 3-2 victory over Brown on Saturday afternoon.
"I liked how our team responded today after a tough result last night," Colgate head coach
Greg Fargo said. "We played with an edge all weekend, but today we got the result we were looking for.
"Our special teams came through for us again today, and
Brittney Brooks was solid when she needed to be."
The Raiders saw Craig net her second goal in as many days as she grabbed her fourth of the season. Colgate outshot the Bears 31-16, including a game-high 13 shots in the middle frame.
Rachel Walsh tied the game in the opening frame after Brown had taken the 1-0 lead. Craig's marker early in the middle period was the go-ahead goal before
Taylor Volpe scored the game-winner later in the frame.
Colgate (4-13-2, 2-8 ECAC Hockey) kept the Bears scoreless on the power play while the Raiders converted on two of their three opportunities. Junior netminder
Brittney Brooks make 14 saves in the contest for her second career victory.
Brown drops to 1-11-3 on the season and 0-7-1 in conference play. Kaitlyn Keon and Janice Yang were the Bears' two goal-scorers in the game. Yang also added an assist on the day.
Keon notched the game's opening goal at the 14:13 mark in the first frame. The Raiders didn't waste much time answering, however, as Walsh found the back of the net less than two minutes later on a power play to tie the game.
Early in the second period, Craig redirected one past Brown goaltender Aubree Moore to give the Raiders the go-ahead goal.
Brown was called for cross-checking at the 12:40 mark, which allowed Colgate another advantage opportunity. Volpe added to Colgate's lead a little over one minute later when
Cat Quirion and Craig found Volpe for the eventual game-winner.
The Bears registered another tally late in the game but the Raiders held strong throughout the remainder of the contest to secure the win.
Colgate is back on the ice Friday when it travels to University Park, Pa., to face off with the Penn State Nittany Lions for a two-game set. The opening game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
