NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
The Colgate women's hockey team returned to action on Friday night after more than a month off and fell to Yale 6-4 in a high scoring game.

Colgate (3-13-2, 1-8-0 ECAC Hockey) came from behind three times in the contest but could only pull to within one each time.  The Raiders' outshot the Bulldogs 36-20, including two double-digit shooting periods in the first and third frame. Colgate also kept Yale scoreless on the power play, while the Raiders converted on three of their eight attempts.

Ten different Raiders tallied points in the contest with Nicole Gass and Miriam Drubel leading the way with two points each from helpers. Senior captain Megan Wickens and junior Katie Case netted their first of the year while Katelyn Parker and Taylor Craig also added to their season goal total.

Following a scoreless opening period, Colgate posted a game-high 15 shots but weren't able to find the back of the net. The Raiders best scoring chance of the period came at the 15:08 mark when Melissa Kueber and Case both had solid looks on net during a man-up opportunity.

The second frame was a high scoring period, featuring six goals. Yale notched two quick markers in the opening five minutes, but the Raiders answered at the 10:25 mark to cut the deficit to one, at 2-1.

Yale (5-8-1, 3-3-1 ECAC Hockey) extended its lead back to two goals a few minutes later with a tally from Hanna Astrom and Abby Gahm.

Colgate would respond strong, however, pulling again to within one, at 4-3 following two goals from Parker and Craig. Parker's goal came in the second period while Craig netted hers in the final frame on a power play opportunity 8:15 into the period.

The Bulldogs would tally their fifth goal seven minutes later but two penalties on Yale late in the game gave the Raiders a six-on-four man-up advantage after Colgate pulled its goalie. Case was able to slide one past Yale's netminder Jaimie Leonoff with 34 seconds left to get Colgate back within one.

But despite Colgate's momentum in the final minute of play, Yale finished the game scoring an empty net goal to ultimately secure its win.

Ashlynne Rando and Brittney Brooks split time in net for Colgate with Rando making five saves as the starter and Brooks pushing aside nine to close out the game. Yale's goaltender Leonoff earned the victory and posted 32 saves throughout the contest.

The Raiders have a quick turnaround as they are back on the ice Saturday to faceoff with the Brown Bears at 4 p.m.
