CANTON, N.Y. – Rookie
Cat Quirion scored her second marker of the year Saturday afternoon but it couldn't lift the Colgate women's hockey team past St. Lawrence. The Raiders fell 3-1 to the Saints.
Colgate tallied the game's first goal 10 minutes into the game but let the Saints equalize two minutes later. After a back and forth middle frame, the Raiders saw the Saints score with three minutes left to ultimately notch the victory.
Colgate (5-19-2, 2-12-0 ECAC) converted on one of its four man-up opportunities while holding the Saints to 0-2 on their power play chances.
Quirion and
Taylor Craig both got in the scorebook with a goal and an assist, respectively. Netminder
Ashlynne Rando made an impressive 28 saves in the contest, including a game-high 11 in the final frame.
St. Lawrence (7-14-3, 6-5-3 ECAC) received goals from Margo Lund, Rylee Smith, and Kailee Heidersbach. Saints goalie Carmen MacDonald recorded 20 stops in her seventh victory of the year.
The Saints were called for checking at the 9:19 mark of the opening period, which gave the Raiders an extra skater. A minute later, Colgate found the back of the net when Quirion netted her second of the year off a feed from Craig.
A little over two minutes later the Saints were able to knot the score at 1-1 following Lund's marker.
The middle frame showcased seven strong looks on net from the Raiders, but each time St. Lawrence had the answer.
Neither team notched a goal in the second period, which made for an exciting final frame.
Again, Colgate started the third period with some solid attempts on goal but was unable to find the back of the net.
With just over three minutes remaining in the game, St. Lawrence saw Smith tally the game-winner.
Colgate pulled the goalie in the final minutes of play to try and tie the game, but the Saints added an insurance marker on an empty net with 1:35 left to ultimately secure the win.
The Raiders are back on home ice Friday when they host their annual Autism Awareness Game against Brown at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear blue and support the cause. There will be chuck-a-puck, a silent auction, a game day raffle, $1 hot dogs, and a ceremonial puck drop.
