Volpe, Drubel Net Markers Against Dartmouth

Raiders Fall in Tight Game, 4-2

The Raiders dropped a hard fought game to Dartmouth 4-2 on Saturday afternoon
Box Score

HAMILTON – The Colgate women's ice hockey team dropped a tough 4-2 decision to Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon but not without an impressive performance from junior netminder Brittney Brooks.

Brooks recorded 30 saves in the game, including a game-high 17 in the middle frame.

Colgate (5-17-2, 2-10-0 ECAC) saw Taylor Volpe record her seventh point in a six game span to lead the Raiders. Her marker 10:08 into the first period, earned the senior her fifth goal in six games. It also gave the Raiders the early 1-0 advantage heading into the middle frame. Miriam Drubel also posted a goal in the loss, shifting her season total to seven.

"With Taylor (Volpe), since early in the year she has stepped up her game a notch or two," Colgate head coach Greg Fargo said of his senior assistant captain. "For a while she had been quiet on the scoresheet for us but had been giving us great effort. She was really good in other areas of the game but since moving her to the wing it's allowed her a little more freedom to play a little bit. When she gets on the scoresheet our team tends to do well. I'm happy to see her score again and hopefully she can continue on that path."

Dartmouth (5-13-1, 4-8-1 ECAC) recorded three goals in the second period before notching an empty net goal with 19:38 remaining in the game to ultimately secure its victory. Ali Winkel, Lauren Kelly, Lindsey Allen, and Laura Stacey all registered goals while goalie Lindsay Holdcroft pushed aside 22 shots.

Volpe got the Raiders out to the 1-0 lead after linemate Taylor Craig found her for her seventh marker of the year.

The Big Green exploded in the middle period, recording three goals almost exactly six minutes apart from one another.

The Raiders would not go away, however, as Drubel's goal 3:50 into the final frame pulled the Raiders to within one, at 3-2.

Despite solid looks from the Raiders in the final minutes of action, the Big Green recorded an insurance marker with less than 30 seconds to play after Colgate had pulled the goalie.

Colgate went scoreless on their sixth power play opportunities while the Big Green converted on one of their four. That goal was the empty net goal in the final period.

The Raiders are back in action Friday when they travel to No. 5/6 Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
