CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Colgate women's hockey team dropped a 2-0 hard fought game to the No. 6 team in the nation on Saturday afternoon.

Colgate (3-11-0, 1-7-0 ECAC) ran into a tough Harvard (6-1-1, 6-1-1 ECAC) squad but were able to keep the Crimson scoreless on the power play.

"We got an outstanding effort from our group tonight against a very strong Harvard team," Colgate head coach Greg Fargo said. "This was a physical weekend against Dartmouth and Harvard and we really liked the fight we showed all weekend long.

"Defensively we played extremely well and did a nice job of coming out of our end. We had some good looks to score but just couldn't get one through when we needed it.

"The recent results aren't indicative of how we're playing. We're getting some great contributions throughout our lineup and I'm pleased with the progress these past few weeks. We're going to keep knocking on the door and eventually it's going to bust open for us. We are right there night after night."

Taylor Craig and Taylor Volpe led the Raiders with three shots each. Craig was also 6-for-9 from the faceoff circle. Junior Susan Allen pushed aside 19 shots, including a game-high 10 in the middle frame.

The Crimson saw Natasha Rachlin and Sydney Daniels tally markers in the contest. Rookie Brianna Laing made a game-high 21 saves in her first collegiate start.

Colgate was not fazed by their nationally ranked opponent and matched the Crimson in the shots category with 21-all.

Harvard took the 1-0 lead 9:24 into the first frame when Rachlin netted her first career goal. Mary Parker started the play by finding Rachlin in the right circle, where the freshman then fired a shot past Allen.

The Raiders tried to equalize with two power play chances off a Crimson hooking and elbowing call but were unable to convert.

In a scoreless middle frame, both teams had opportunities on power plays. Katelyn Parker notched two good looks on net for the Raiders but Laing came up big for the Crimson to push them away from goal.

Colgate kept it a one-goal game until the 16:41 mark in the final stanza. After some back-and-forth hockey, Daniels recorded what would be the insurance goal to put the Crimson up 2-0. Sarah Edney and Miye D'Oench connected, finding their linemate Daniels, who shot one by Allen for her third tally of the year.

Colgate would have a chance to cut the lead down to 2-1 following a Harvard tripping penalty with less than two minutes to play but the Crimson would not concede a goal, grabbing the shutout victory.

The Raiders have 10 days off before they head to nearby rival Syracuse on Nov. 26. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. puck drop and will be played at the War Memorial, home of the Syracuse Crunch.
