STORRS, Conn. –
Junior Miriam Drubel led a Colgate attack, which outshot Connecticut 44-23, but fell short on Friday night as the Huskies notched a 3-2 overtime victory over the Raiders.

Colgate (0-3) received both its goals from Drubel for her first and second marker of the year. Assistant captain Jocelyn Simpson added a helper on Drubel's first goal. Sophomore goaltender Ashlynne Rando pushed aside 20 saves in the loss.

Connecticut (1-3) saw Kayla Campero score the game-winner 4:49 into overtime. Sarah MacDonnell and Stephanie Raithby earned the Huskies initial two goals in the opening period. Sarah Moses posted 42 saves for her first win of the season.

Just 30 seconds into the first frame, Simpson saw an opening and fired a shot low on net, but UConn's Erin Burns came up with a huge block to stop a potential goal. Before the Huskies could clear the puck away, Nicole Gass collected the rebound and tried her luck on net but her shot sailed just wide of the goal.

The Huskies were called for interference at the two-minute mark, awarding the Raiders a man-up opportunity. Colgate riffled off four solid shots during the power play but was unable to find the back of the net.

Five minutes later, Colgate was called for hooking giving UConn a power play chance. The Huskies took advantage as they notched the game's first goal 7:16 into the contest. MacDonnell tallied the goal but received help from Caitlin Hewes and Michela Cava.

The Raiders tried to rally on another power play opportunity off shots by Katie Case, Liz Trautz, Melissa Kueber and Drubel but the Huskies held strong not conceding the tying goal.

Before the end of the first period, UConn registered its second goal thanks to Raithby's first of the season.

Despite outshooting UConn 16-10 in the opening frame, the Raiders headed into the second period down by two goals. But after the Raiders killed off a UConn power play Colgate responded with a goal of its own to pull within one, at 2-1. The play started after Simpson found Drubel with the puck. The Hanover, N.H., native placed it past Moses, getting the Raiders on the board just four minutes into the middle frame.

Colgate had the extra skater advantage three times throughout the remainder of the second period but could not find the equalizer.

It wasn't long, however, until the Raiders squared the game at 2-all as Colgate scored 19 seconds into the final frame. Drubel netted her second of the game to knot the score early in the last period.

Colgate had chances on six different power plays in the period but fell short each time as they either hit the post or watched Moses make stellar saves to keep them out of the goal. Neither team was able to break the tie sending the game into overtime.

UConn registered the final blow 4:49 into extra time grabbing game-winner. Campero's power play goal after a Raiders' roughing penalty handed the Huskies their first win of the season.

The Raiders went 0-11 on the power play while the Huskies converted on two of their seven man-up opportunities.

These teams are back on the ice Saturday for a rematch at 2 p.m.
