“Although the scores didn't indicate it, we did a lot of good things out there,” head coach
Greg Fargo said. “ We are getting better. This was a chance to play the top team in the country early in the season and it will help set the tone for the rest of the year. We are learning how hard we have to compete, how focused we have to be, and to play within our systems to have a chance to win hockey games at this level. We learned a lot this weekend, we will take what we're learned and move forward and get back to work on Monday.”
The defending national champs scored just two minutes into the game off a power play goal. Bozek was able to gain position on the right hand side of Rando and play the puck over to Brandt. She passed it to Kessel who was trailing and she was able to shoot the puck just under the crossbar to give them to a 1-0 lead. They would increase their lead with three goals in the first period making the score 4-0.
In the second period, Minnesota continued with attacking pressure. Colgate was able to stay strong defensively until late into the period when the Gophers scored two more goals, one of them being on a power play.
Very early into the third period Colgate would concede another goal just one minute into the period. This goal was one of five the Raiders would give up throughout this period, giving the Gophers an 11-0 win.
The Raiders will be back at Starr Rink next weekend, as they take on Northeastern in a two-game series starting Friday at 7 p.m.
