POTSDAM, N.Y. (2/5/11) – The Colgate women's hockey team played to its third overtime tie of the season, 2-2, with Clarkson on Saturday afternoon. This was the Raiders sixth overtime game of the season. Sophomore

Both teams jumped off to a quick start, creating scoring opportunities on both ends of the ice in the opening minutes of play. As the period continued, Colgate (9-17-3, 6-10-2 ECAC) held the advantage in shots but it was the Golden Knights that got on the scoreboard first at the 8:18 mark to take the 1-0 lead. The first goal gave Clarkson an offensive surge, outshooting the Raiders 13-1 over the next few minutes and finding a second goal at the 16:51 mark. Less than a minute later, Colgate won the possession off a faceoff and found the net shortly after with a shot from Hootz at the 17:29 mark, reducing the scoring margin to one and put the score at 2-1. After a fruitful end to the first period, both teams came into the second 20 minutes of play determined to find the net once again. The Raiders attacked first, outshooting the Knights 5-1 in the first few minutes of play. The team eventually found a power play goal at the 5:14 mark courtesy of Simpson, to tie the score at 2-2. Both teams continued to battle it out on the ice but as the period came to an end, it was clear that the final frame would be the decider.
The third period was unlike the first two. Despite taking a total of 26 shots, with Colgate holding a slight advantage with 14 shots, neither team could find the net, sending the game into overtime. Neither team was able to secure the win in the additional five minutes of play, resulting in the Raiders third and Clarkson's fifth overtime game of the season.
Junior
Kimberly Sass had 39 saves for Colgate while Erica Howe had 38 for the Knights.
The team will resume play next weekend when it hosts ECAC opponents Yale and Brown in its final two home games of the regular season.
