HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/12/11)
– The Colgate women's hockey team secured its second win of the weekend when it defeated Brown 4-1 on Saturday evening in Starr Rink.

Seniors Jacquie Colborne and Jessi Waters along with sophomore Brittany Phillips recorded two points each for the Raiders. Colborne, who scored the game-winner, and classmate Waters had one goal and one assist apiece while Phillips recorded two goals in the game.

Colgate (11-17-3, 8-10-2 ECAC) came out to an aggressive start, attacking the Bears' net with five quick shots in the first few minutes of the game. As the period progressed, the Raiders continued to outshoot Brown and were eventually rewarded at the 6:47 mark when Phillips deflected a one-time shot from junior Amanda Kirwan during a power play to give the Raiders the 1-0. Waters was also credited with the assist. As the half progressed, it was Colgate that created majority of the scoring opportunities but could not get past Katie Jamieson who made one stop after another. Then with just one minute left in the period, sophomore Jenna Klynstra brought the puck down the ice, passed it across the goal line to Colborne, who hammered it home to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead with a short-handed goal at the end of the first period.

The second frame started off in Brown's favor. The team opened play with an extra player on the ice due to a Colgate penalty that had carried into the second period, allowing the Bears to outshoot the Raiders 4-0. As the period progressed, Colgate continued to attack the Brown's net aggressively and at the 10:32 mark found a third goal when Phillips picked up a pass from sophomore Jessica Hootz, skated down the ice, and fired it past Jamieson to score her second goal of the game and give her team a 3-0 advantage.

The final 20 minutes of play differed from the first two, with Brown creating majority of the scoring opportunities as it outshot Colgate 10-6. The Bears' came out playing hard and were soon rewarded with a goal from Alena Polenska just 3:24 into play to put the score at 3-1. However, despite their hard work, the Raiders were able to find a fourth goal from Waters with the help of Colborne and freshman Jocelyn Simpson to help solidify their lead. Brown continued to threaten Colgate's net with some close attempts in the final minutes, but in the end the Raiders were able to hold them off to secure the 4-1 win.

Seniors Jacquie Colborne, Hannah Milan, Jessi Waters and Lisa Plenderleith were honored after the game.

Colgate will play its final two regular season games when it travels to Harvard and Dartmouth next weekend. These two games will help decide whether the Raiders, who are currently holding the eighth position in the league standings with 18 points, will advance to the ECAC playoffs at the end of this month.
