Raiders Face Quinnipiac and Princeton on the Road

HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/15/11)
– The Colgate women's hockey team will hit the road once again this weekend when it travels to Quinnipiac and Princeton for a pair of ECAC Hockey matchups on Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.

The Raiders are coming off a pair of setbacks to No. 10/10 Harvard and Dartmouth last weekend at Starr Rink. Senior Kimberly Sass had a total of 36 saves in the two games while freshman Susan Allen had 12 stops in her first collegiate game and start against the Crimson on Friday. Colgate (4-7-1) now has a 1-3-1 ECAC Hockey record.
 
SCORING LEADERS
Junior Brittany Phillips, who is ranked 12th in the country in power play goals with three, continues to lead the team with 15 points from five goals and 10 assists. She is followed by freshman Melissa Kueber who has seven goals and three assists for 10 points, and is third in the league in goals and ninth in the country in points per game amongst rookies. Freshman Miriam Drubel and sophomore Jocelyn Simpson are tied for third with nine points apiece. Drubel, who is 13th in the nation in points per game for a rookie, has four goals and five assists, while Simpson has two goals and seven assists.
 
SERIES
The Raiders lead the all-time series with Quinnipiac, owning a 14-3-3 record since the teams first met in the 2001-02 season. The teams split the series last season with Colgate winning the first meeting 2-1 in overtime on the road before falling to the Bobcats 4-0 at Starr Rink. The Raiders have an unbeaten 9-0-2 record against Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn. Colgate's only ties against the Bobcats on the road were in the 2009-10 and 2005-06 seasons, both 1-1 in overtime.
 
Princeton leads the all-time series 17-5-2 since the teams first met in the 2001-02 season. The Tigers have won the last four meetings in Princeton, N.J., owning an 11-2-1 record at home. Colgate's only wins on the road were in the ECACHL Quarterfinals, when the Raiders defeated Princeton 1-0 in overtime and then 3-2 in the second game to advance to the semifinals where they fell to Dartmouth. Last season Colgate dropped its first game against the Tigers 2-0 on the road before defeating them 2-0 at Starr Rink on Nov. 20.
 
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
The Bobcats (5-6-1, 4-1-1 ECAC Hockey) are coming off a 3-0 loss to Clarkson and a 3-2 win over St. Lawrence last weekend. The team, which was picked to finish third in the league's preseason poll, has wins over Mercyhurst, Rensselaer, Union and Yale, a tie against Brown. It has also experienced setbacks to Boston College, Northeastern, Mercyhurst and Maine twice.
 
Quinnipiac is led by sophomore Kelly Babstock and freshman Nicole Kosta. Babstock has a team-high 12 points from six goals and six assists while Kosta has seven points from one goal and a team-best six assists. Defending the net is junior Victoria Vigilanti who has started in 11 games this season has a total of 243 saves for a .903 save percentage.

SCOUTING PRINCETON
The Tigers (4-3-1, 3-2-1 ECAC Hockey), who were picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll, are coming off a pair of losses to Clarkson and St. Lawrence last weekend. The team has wins over Northeastern, Union, Brown and Yale, and a tie against Rensselaer. Its only other loss this season was a 3-1 setback to Niagara on Oct. 22.
 
Princeton is led by sophomores Sally Butler and Denna Laing, who have nine points each. Butler has four goals and five assists while Laing has three goals and six assists. Behind them is classmate Olivia Mucha with seven points from four goals and three assists. Leading the way in goal is senior Rachel Webber who has started in all eight games this season and has a total of 194 saves for a .933 save percentage.
 
ECAC PRESEASON POLL
The Colgate women's ice hockey team was picked to finish ninth in the 2011-12 ECAC Hockey Preseason Poll that was released on Sept. 15. The Raiders received 41 points for ninth place above Yale, Brown and Union. Two-time defending regular-season and tournament champion Cornell was picked to finish first with 121 votes and 11 first-place votes.
