HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/22/11) – The Colgate women's hockey team dropped the second game of a two-game set against No. 2 Cornell, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon in Starr Rink. The Raiders were outshot 38-14 in the game.
The first period started off in the Big Red's favor, with the team opening the game with a series of scoring opportunities. Cornell eventually found the net at the 5:16 mark to take the 1-0 lead. Colgate (7-16-2, 4-9-1 ECAC) soon began to find its offensive rhythm, creating a close opportunity in front of the Big Red's net midway through the half but could not capitalize. However, as the half came to a close, the Raiders found themselves playing defense once again, holding Cornell scoreless during two power plays, one of which was a 5-on-3. The Big Red then found a goal during its third power play advantage in the final two minutes of the period, to put the score at 2-0.
Cornell started the second frame similar to the first, attacking Colgate's net aggressively. With some strong defensive blocks and a series of physical plays, the Raiders were able to keep themselves in the game as they began to generate their offense. Midway through the half, Colgate almost found its first goal when freshman

The Big Red then went on to score twice more in the final period, first at the 4:07 mark and then again at the 16:27 mark, to win the game 5-0 and sweep the set.
