HAMDEN, CONN. (2/6/2010) –
Goalie Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) once again had a stellar performance, but  it wasn't enough as Quinnipiac posted a 2-0 victory over Colgate, Saturday night in men's ECAC Hockey action in front of a national television audience on CBS College Sports from “The Bank”.

The sophomore kept the Raiders in the game by turning aside 34 of 36 shots, including  registering 13 saves in the second period and 16 more in the final period.  Q-pac netminder Dan Clarke saved 26 in the victory.

The Bobcats, who improved to 14-12-2 and 8-8 in league play, got all it needed at 14:16 of the opening period as Greg Holt collected a pass from Mike Glaicar at the blueline and cruised in on Evin on a breakaway.  The senior went forehand-backhand and then lifted a shot glove side into the net for his seventh goal of the year.

Colgate, which fell to 11-11-5 overall and 8-6-1 in league play, had chances to even the game with back-to-back power plays in both the second and third periods.  The Raiders' man advantage opportunities generated six shots on net in five power play attempts.

Down 1-0 with 9:26 left in regulation, Evin made a crucial save on Jean Marc Beaudoin to keep the Raiders within striking distance.  The senior captain was on the left side of the cage and wristed a shot towards an opening on the right side, but Evin stuck out his right pad to keep Colgate within one.

For the second time this season against Quinnipiac, in its late attempt to even the score, Colgate was whistled for a late penalty.  Evin remained tough in the first 30 seconds of the penalty kill by stopping two shots in the crease, one off the stick of Beaudoin.  However, Quinnipiac drew another two-minute minor on Colgate which equated to a 71-second two-man advantage for the Bobcats.  Q-pac struck for its second goal with one second left in the two-man advantage on a shot from Zack Hansen from out top to cement the victory.

Colgate returns to action next weekend as it hosts Yale and Brown at Starr Rink.  Friday night's game versus the nationally-ranked Bulldogs will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Sports.  Opening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
