PRINCETON, N.J. (2/5/2010) – Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas)
and Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.) each scored second period goals and Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) was brilliant between the pipes once again as visiting Colgate snapped Princeton's three-game win streak with a  3-1 victory in men's ECAC Hockey action Friday evening at Hobey Baker Rink.

With the win, the Raiders, who improved to 11-10-5 overall and 8-5-1 in league play, completed their first regular-season sweep of the Tigers since the 2004-05 campaign and posted their first win at Princeton since a 4-2  victory on November 18, 2006.

After the two squads went into the first intermission deadlocked at 0-0, Colgate captured the lead for good by scoring twice in the span of 71 seconds.  Twelve seconds into a power play, Smith opened the scoring with his 11th goal of the year from Jeremy Price (Milton, Ont.) and Robbie Bourdon (Ile Bizard, Que.) at 8:19.  A short time later, Cox tallied the eventual game-winner with his third goal of the season at 9:30 from Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) and Corbin McPherson (Folsom, Calif.).

The Tigers, who fell to 9-11-2 overall and 5-9-1 in league play,  solved Evin for the first time at 15:18 as Mike Kramer scored his ninth from Brodie Zuk.  On the ensuing face-off, Princeton put some pressure on Colgate, but Evin remained solid with three consecutive saves in a small amount of time to keep the Raiders ahead.  In the final 42 seconds of the period, it was Colgate's time to turn up the heat.  After winning a face-off in the offensive zone, the Raiders fired four shots on net, two went wide and two were turned aside by goalie Zane Kalemba.  The period ended with Colgate leading 2-1.

After controlling play for the greater portion of the third period, it appeared the Raiders had their final hurdle to overcome with just over six minutes left.  Down a man, the Colgate penalty kill unit came up huge in killing off its fourth Princeton power play of the evening.  The Raiders blocked two shots and Evin kicked aside the other before the power play ended.

Holding a one-goal advantage, Colgate went on the power play with 56 seconds remaining.  Down one man already, the Tigers pulled Kalemba from net to even up the skaters.  With 12 seconds remaining, Princeton's efforts for the eventual tying goal came to a crashing halt as David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) sent the puck into the empty net for his ninth of the year from Smith to give the Raiders the two-goal victory.  The senior's goal gave him 120 career points and moved him within one point of Larry Gibson for a tie for 28th on Colgate's all-time point list.

Evin improved to 4-1-1 in his last six starts by collecting 23 saves, including 11 in the second period.  Kalemba saved 25 in the loss.  Prior to the loss, the senior had a 5-0-0 all-time record in net for Princeton versus Colgate.

The Raiders return to action Saturday evening as it wraps up the two-game road trip at Quinnipiac.  Opening face-off is set for an 8 p.m. start in Hamden and will be televised over CBS College Sports.  Dave Ryan and David Starman will provide the picture from “The Bank”.
