NEW HAVEN, Conn. (2/12/10) - The Colgate women's hockey team fell to the Yale Bulldogs, 3-1, Friday evening at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn. Both teams were looking to keep their playoff chances alive as Yale, which entered tied for eighth place in the league standings with 15 points, came away with the two more tonight. The Raiders dropped to 9-18-4 overall and 5-10-4 in the league while the Bulldogs improve to 10-13-3 overall and 8-10-1 in the ECAC.
The Raiders outshot Yale 40-26 in the game but the Bulldogs were anchored by goaltender Jackee Snikeris who made 39 saves for the win. Colgate net-minder
Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) had 23 saves, giving up just two goals.
The Bulldogs earned the first point of the game as senior Caroline Murphy scored at 9:24 in the first period to give Yale a 1-0 advantage. The Raiders however, were quick to respond as senior
Evan Minnick (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) picked up her ninth goal of the season, sneaking a power-play goal in past Snikeris with 6:42 left in the period. Junior
Hannah Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.) and freshman
Jenna Klynstra (Edmonton, Alta.) earned assists on the goal as the Raiders entered the first break tied at 1-1.
Yale opened the second period with another even-strength goal, this time coming from defenseman Samantha MacLean. Colgate was unable to score in the second period and entered the third stanza down by just one goal, 2-1.
Neither team could find the back of the net during the third period so the Raiders decided pulled their goaltender for the extra-man advantage with 1:06 left in the game. Yale's Aleca Hughes then added the insurance goal on an empty net with just 33 seconds left in the game as the Bulldogs held on for the win, 3-1.
The Raiders will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 13 when they take on Brown at 4 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
