LEWISBURG, Pa. (11/13/10) — Colgate junior running back
Nate Eachus (Drums, Pa.) ran for 160 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday to lead the Raiders past Bucknell 31-7 at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. With the victory Colgate secured its 14th winning season in 15 years under head coach
Dick Biddle.
Eachus recorded his ninth 100-yard game of the season off 20 carries, while senior quarterback
Greg Sullivan (Monroe, N.Y.) threw for 105 yards and one touchdown. Senior
Doug Rosnick (Langhorne, Pa.) finished with two catches for 32 yards and one score while freshman
Daniel Cason (Somerville, N.J.) also recorded two receptions for 22 yards.
Colgate (6-4, 3-2) would score on its first possession off a 38-yard run by Eachus to cap a seven-play, 57-yard drive. The run by Eachus came on 4th-and-1 to give the Raiders a 6-0 lead, the extra point attempt was blocked by Bucknell's Josh Eden.
The Raiders would add to their lead two minutes later as freshman
Nat Bellamy (Los Angeles, Calif.) would intercept a Brandon Wesley pass and return it 51 yards for a touchdown. The interception was a career first for Bellamy and the fifth for Colgate in the last two games.
Colgate would add to its lead in the second quarter when Eachus found the end zone for the second time on a one-yard run to cap an 11-play, 82-yard scoring drive to give the Raiders a 19-0 halftime lead. The key play on the drive was a 17-yard pass from Sullivan to Eachus on 3rd-and-11.
Bucknell (1-9, 1-3) would recover an onside kick to start the second half, but the Raiders defense brought enough pressure on Wesley to force back-to-back incomplete passes followed by a punt to keep a 19-0 lead.
Colgate would score with 1:33 remaining in the third quarter when Sullivan found Rosnick open in the end zone to give the Raiders a 25-0 lead. The scoring drive was 9-plays, for 80-yards, lasting just over four minutes. Colgate would strike again, 28 seconds later, after Eachus broke three tackles on his way for a 31-yard touchdown run to build a 31-0 lead. Colgate received the ball on the Bison's 31-yard line after senior defensive end
Zach Smith (Thorofare, N.J.) forced a fumble that was recovered by classmate
Chris DiMassa (Coatesville, Pa.).
Bucknell would get on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter when Rob Gerlach recovered a fumble and returned it 58 yards for the Bison's only score.
DiMassa led the team with seven tackles, while Smith recorded six tackles, 2.0 sacks and a forced fumble. Senior defensive end
