BETHLEHEM, Pa. (10/30/10) — Colgate junior running back
Nate Eachus (Drums, Pa.) ran for 124 yards, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders dropped their second Patriot League game of the year Saturday to Lehigh 44-14 at Goodman Stadium.
Lehigh scored on it first seven possessions of the game to build a 44-7 lead in the first three quarters. The win was the first for the Mountain Hawks over Colgate since 2006.
Junior quarterback
Steve Rizzo (Audubon, N.J.) made his first collegiate start, filling in for an injured
Greg Sullivan (Monroe, N.Y.) and threw for a pair of touchdowns, while sophomore
Chris Looney (Verona, N.J.) led the receiving core with a career-high four receptions for 25 yards and one touchdown.
Lehigh (6-2, 2-0) opened the scoring with an 8-play, 72-yard drive capped with a 16-yard pass from Chris Lum to Sean Farrell to take a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. Colgate had a chance to get on the board during its opening drive but had a field goal attempt blocked.
The Mountain Hawks would score on all four of their possessions in the second quarter to build a 31-0 lead. Colgate (4-4, 1-2) would get on the scoreboard at the end of the half when Rizzo found Looney open in the end zone for a five-yard touchdown. The score was a career first for both Rizzo and Looney.
Lehigh extended its lead to 44-7 with two more scores in the third quarter, before Colgate found the end zone to begin the fourth quarter when Rizzo found junior running back
Noah Jackson (Vista, Calif.) wide open for an 17-yard touchdown pass to make the final score 44-14.
Senior safety
Mike Barry (Naples, Fla.) led the team with nine tackles, while sophomore linebacker
Patrick Friel (St. Charles, Ill.) recorded six including two for a loss.
GAME NOTES: Eachus has rushed for more then 100 yards in seven games this season. With the 124 yards Eachus became the first Raider to gain more then 1,200 yards in a season since Jordan Scott ran for 1,875 in 2007. The loss on Saturday dropped the Raiders to 1-2 in Patriot League play for the first time since 1994.
