HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/2/10) — Colgate junior running back
Nate Eachus (Drums, Pa.) rushed 44 times for a season-high 214 yards and four touchdowns as the Raiders toppled Georgetown 34-3, Saturday afternoon in Patriot League play at the Andy Kerr Stadium.
Eachus also led the team with 54 yards receiving to help Colgate amass 430 yards of total offense, while the defense held the Hoyas to a season low 113 yards. The Raiders also controlled the time of possession, holding the ball for more then 40 minutes for the second straight week.
Senior quarterback
Greg Sullivan (Monroe, N.Y.) completed 12-of-17 passes for 126 yards and ran for 49 more, while freshman wide receiver
Daniel Cason (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) recorded a career-high four receptions.
Colgate (2-2, 1-0) opened the game with a 16-play, 67-yard drive that resulted in a 20-yard field goal by
Evan Colborne (Tampa, Fla.) to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead. The Hoyas then responded with a 38-yard field goal on their opening drive from Brett Weiss to tie the game 3-3. Both teams would punt their second possessions to end the first quarter tied 3-3.
Colgate would find the end zone for the first time in the second quarter when Eachus capped an 18-play, 90-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run. Eachus carried the ball 12-times, during the nine-minute drive, for 49 yards. After the long scoring drive the Raiders defense forced a quick three-and-out to get the ball back with 1:05 remaining. The Colgate offense capitalized on the punt by lining up Colborne for his second field goal of the half to give the Raiders a 13-3 halftime lead.
Georgetown (3-2, 2-1) would start the second half with the ball, but was again forced to punt after only three plays. Colgate would then extend its lead to 20-7 after a two yard run from Eachus, during a 7-play, 29-yard drive.
The Raiders would score to more touchdowns in the fourth quarter both off runs from Eachus to seal their first Patriot League win of the year. Eachus would score from 1-yard out with 14:10 remaining and 3-yards out with 6:16 remaining. Colgate's defense forced two fumbles and three punts in the Hoyas five possessions of the second half.
Senior linebacker
Chris DiMassa (Coatesville, Pa.) led the Raiders defense with nine tackles and one sack, while classmate
Zack Smith (Thorafare, N.J.) recorded one sack and forced two fumbles that were both recovered by Colgate.
GAME NOTES: Eachus has rushed for 200-yards or more five times in his career. He has also rushed for more then 100-yards in all four games this season. With the four touchdowns Eachus also joined the Colgate top-10 list in scoring with 198 points. Colgate controlled the time of possession 40:39 to 19:21 and finished 1-of-2 in fourth-down conversions. Colgate is now 8-0 in the all-time series against Georgetown.
