HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/23/2010)–
Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas) scored his 10th goal of the season with 49 seconds left in regulation as Colgate rallied from a two-goal deficit to post a 3-3 overtime draw with visiting Robert Morris, Saturday evening at Starr Rink.

The Raiders, which stand 9-9-5 overall, got the equalizer on a six on four.  Trailing 3-2, Colgate found itself on the power play with 1:46 left in regulation.  After a few rushes, goalie Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) skated to the bench for the extra attacker.  Eleven seconds after the sophomore hit the bench, Smith deflected in a shot from David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) in behind Eric Levine to force overtime.  Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) received the secondary assist for getting the puck to McIntyre.

The Raiders took its only lead of the contest at 12:45 of the opening period.  On the power play, Colgate's version of the “French Connection” teamed up. Nick Prockow (Montreal, Que.) deflected in a shot by Robbie Bourdon (Ile Bizard, Que.) for his fifth goal of the season.  Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.) got the puck to Bourdon at the blueline and received an assist as well.  The Raiders led 1-0 after the first.

Robert Morris, now 7-13-4 overall, ripped off three goals in a 7:01 span in the second period to take a 3-1 lead.  Andrew Blazek fired a slap shot over Evin's outstretched glove at 2:01 to knot the game at 1-1.  The Colonials recorded their first lead of the weekend at 7:08 as RMU took advantage of a defensive zone give away by Colgate as Stefan Salituro fired in a one-timer.  Less than two minutes later, Josh Jones used a screen in front of the cage and fired a wrist shot from the blueline into the back of the net at 9:02 to give the Colonials a two-goal advantage.

Colgate cut the deficit to 3-2 when McIntyre fed Day from behind the net and the junior beat Levine top shelf, glove side for his 13th of the year.  It was the junior's fifth career goal versus Robert Morris in five games.

Evin kept the Raiders within striking distance by stopping Chris Kushneriuk on a shorthanded breakaway attempt with 6:52 left in the contest.  The sophomore finished with 34 saves, including a dozen in the third period.  Evin needed to turn aside three shots in overtime to preserve the tie, including a crucial save on the goal doorstep with 1:02 left.  Levine finished with 28 saves on the evening for the Colonials.

Colgate's power play converted two of five attempts, while its penalty kill came up big.  The Raiders stopped Robert Morris on all five power play opportunities.

Colgate returns to action next weekend as it gets back into league play.  The Raiders will host Clarkson Friday evening and then St. Lawrence the following night.  Both games are set for a 7 p.m. start and will be televised on Time Warner Cable out of Syracuse.  The meeting with the Golden Knights will be a “White Out” as the first 500 fans will receive a white Colgate hockey t-shirt.  Saturday's promotion includes a free ice cream tasting provided by Gilligan's located on Rt. 12 in Sherburne.
