HANOVER, N.H. (9/19/09)
-- Sophomore running back Jordan McCord (Chicago, Ill.) rushed 44 times for 212 yards and two touchdowns as Colgate defeated Dartmouth 34-15 on Saturday at Memorial Field. McCord had career-highs in carries, yards, and touchdowns in just his second career start.

Senior wide receiver Pat Simonds (Sidney, N.Y.) caught a 12-yard touchdown pass to give Colgate the early lead in the first quarter, catching the ball at the 5-yard line and evading defenders before scampering into the end zone for the score. Dartmouth responded with a quick 57-yard touchdown pass when quarterback Alex Jenny pump faked and then threw the ball down the sideline to a wide-open Mike Reilly. The ensuing extra point tied the game at 7.

In the second quarter, Sullivan faked a handoff to McCord and ran around the right end for a 15-yard touchdown. However, Dartmouth defensive lineman Eddie Smith blocked the PAT and cornerback Shawn Abuhoff ran the ball back into the Colgate end zone for two points. On Dartmouth's next possession, Foley Schmidt kicked a 21-yard field goal, ending the scoring in the first half.

Dartmouth received the ball to start the half and took its only lead of the game after Schmidt kicked a 29-yard field goal, giving the Big Green a 15-13 advantage. Colgate immediately responded with an 8-play, 60-yard drive capped off by Sullivan's second rushing touchdown of the day, this time from one yard out.

The turning point of the game occurred on Dartmouth's next drive, when sophomore safety Vinnie Nicosia (Miami, Fl.) sacked Jenny on a blitz and forced a fumble. Junior defensive end Lamont Sonds (Hampton, Ga.) recovered the fumble at the Colgate 48-yard line. McCord would then score a 7-yard rushing touchdown, and following the PAT, Colgate had a 27-15 lead. Late in the fourth quarter, McCord scored on a 12-yard touchdown run for the final score of the game.

The Colgate defensive effort was once again stellar. The Raiders allowed only 26 rushing yards and 173 yards overall. Senior Greg Hadley (Fayetteville, N.Y.) led the team with nine tackles, while Garrington Spence (Anaheim, Calif.) registered eight.

On offense, Sullivan went 12-for-19 for 172 passing yards. He also rushed 10 times for 51 yards. Simonds caught 3 passes for 64 yards and a touchdown, while Doug Rosnick (Langhorne, Pa.) caught 3 passes for 37 yards. Colgate is now 3-0 on the season, while Dartmouth drops to 0-1.

The Raiders will open up Patriot League play next week when they host Fordham on Saturday, September 26 at 6 p.m. under the lights of Andy Kerr Stadium. Last season, Colgate defeated Fordham 31-24 in the Bronx.
