Raiders Score Three in the Second;Top Quinnipiac 4-1

(2/7/09) – Freshman goaltender Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) made 25 saves and junior forward Marissa Dombovy (Webster, N.Y.) scored twice as the Colgate women's hockey team beat Quinnipiac 4-1 Saturday afternoon at TD Banknorth Sports Center. The win moved the Raiders into a fourth-place tie with Princeton.

Colgate (16-10-3, 10-5-3) scored three goals in the second, and one in the third period while Sass held the Bobcats scoreless for the first 49:16 to secure the Raiders a weekend split on the road.
 
Colgate lit the lamp first, registering a tally at 2:32 in the second period to go on top 1-0. Dombovy registered her first of the game past Quinnipiac goaltender Tia Wishart off an assist from sophomore Jacquie Colborne (Calgary, Alta.) and senior Clancy Todd (Thorold, Ont.). Junior Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) found the back of the net nearly seven minutes later to extend the lead 2-0. Rotenberg was assisted by sophomore Jessi Waters (Menlo Park, Calif.). Junior Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) closed the period with a goal in the final seconds to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead through two. Stewart was assisted by junior Ali Edell (Mountain Lakes, N.J.).  
 
Dombovy collected her second goal of the game in power-play fashion 5:41 into third to give Colgate a four goal cushion. Dombovy was assisted by Rotenberg and Todd. This was Dombovy's second two goal performance of her career.
 
Quinnipiac (3-22-5, 2-11-5) did not give up, however, out-shooting the Raiders 12-10 in the closing period as Elyse Cole scored during a power-play at 10:44 to close the gap 4-1. The goal snapped the Raiders five game penalty kill streak, during that stretch .
 
The Raiders out-shot Quinnipiac 28-26. Colgate went 1-4 on the power-play, while the Bobcats finished 1-2.
 
Colgate returns to action next weekend as it hosts Dartmouth and Harvard for the coaches versus cancer “Pink at the Rink”. The Raiders face-off against Dartmouth Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. The game will be live on Time Warner Sports.
