HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/25/09) – The Colgate University women's hockey team will meet Dartmouth College in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal, best-of-three series this weekend. The No. 4-seeded Big Green will host the No. 5-seeded Raiders on Friday, Feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m., and if necessary on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for kids 14-and-younger. Tickets can be purchased through the Dartmouth Ticket Office at (603) 646-2466 or on-line at www.dartmouthsports.com.
All games in the series are available for viewing via b2networks for a cost of $8 per game. Live stats will also be provided free of charge. Links are provided on the Colgate Athletics site.
Dartmouth holds an 21-3-1 advantage in the series. The squads split the regular season with Dartmouth taking a 7-2 contest at Thompson Arena in November, and Colgate earning a 2-1 win in the last game on Feb. 13. Two of the Raiders three wins have come at Thompson Arena.
The two squads have met each other in the postseason five times. Dartmouth is 9-0 against Colgate in the postseason, sweeping the Raiders in the 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2008 quarterfinal series. The two teams faced off in the 2007 ECAC Hockey semifinals, with the Big Green winning, 4-1.
Colgate is playing in its eighth consecutive ECAC Hockey postseason since joining the league eight years ago. The Raiders are 18-12-3 overall and 12-7-3 in ECAC Hockey after a weekend split with Union (2-1) and Rensselaer (1-4). The 18 victories is a Colgate school record. Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) with a team-high 27 points. Hunt has 12 goals and 15 assists. Juniors
Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) and
Marissa Dombovy (Webster, N.Y.) each have career-highs with 25 and 24 respectively, while
Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) has 23. Stewart leads the team in goals with 13 while Hunt and Rotenberg each have 12. Senior
Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.) leads in assists with a school record for a defenseman 19. Dosdall headlines the defenders with 23 points off four goals and 19 assists while classmate
Clancy Todd (Thorold, Ont.) has a career-high 17 and freshman
Amanda Kirwan (Mississauga, Ont.) seven.
Colgate has rotated two goaltenders; sophomore
Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.), and freshman
Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.). Plenderleith is 4-6 with a 3.33 GAA and a .879 save percentage, while Sass, a five-time ECAC Freshman of the Week winner, is 13-5-3 with a 1.98 GAA with a .938 save percentage. Both goaltenders have recorded one shutout this season.
Sass finished the regular season setting 12 Colgate freshman records; most wins (13, ECAC 9), fewest losses (5, ECAC 4), lowest GAA (1.98, ECAC 1.85), highest save percentage (.938, ECAC .941), highest winning percentage (.690, ECAC .656) and most saves (635, ECAC 479). Eight of the freshman records set were also Colgate school records.
Dartmouth is making its 18th straight appearance in the postseason. The Big Green are 16-8-4 overall and sports a 13-5-4 league mark. Dartmouth is currently on a four game winless streak after a tie with Clarkson (4-4) and a loss to St. Lawrence (3-4) last weekend. Dartmouth is led by junior Jenna Cunningham with 32 points, sophomore Amanda Trunzo with 31 points and senior Maggie Kennedy with 29. Senior Carli Clemis has played 24 of the Big Green's 28 games and sports a 13-8-2 record, with a 2.41 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.
