David McIntyre
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (2/13/09) – Chris Huxley's power play goal at the midway point of the third period led Harvard to a 3-2 victory over visiting Colgate, Saturday evening in an ECAC men's hockey clash at the Bright Hockey Center.

With a Raider in the penalty box, the Crimson used 30 seconds to get the go ahead goal as Matt McCollem and Daniel Moriarty teamed with Huxley and the sophomore found the back of the cage for his second marker of the year with 9:18 remaining.  Colgate fell to 8-16-5 overall, 3-11-3 in league action.

Harvard, now 6-14-4 overall, 6-7-4 in league play, killed off a Colgate power play in the closing minutes and withstood a six on five in the final 24 seconds as the Raiders pulled the goalie.

The Crimson opened strong and gained a 2-0 advantage within a few moments after the puck dropped.  Michael Beige gave Harvard a 1-0 lead at 1:30 from Ryan Grimshaw and Eric Kroshaus.  Less than a minute later, Nick Coskren cashed in his seventh goal of the year from Steve Rolecek and Jimmy Fraser at 2:18.  The Crimson took a 2-0 lead into intermission.

Colgate got on the board at 14:01 of the second period as Jason Fredricks (Eagle River, Wisc.) beat Ryan Carroll with a wrist shot from the left wing boards for his fourth of the year from Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.) and Sean Carty (Glen Ellyn, Ill.).  The period ended with the Raiders trailing 2-1.

The Raiders got the equalizer from ECAC Hockey's top goal scorer in David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.).  The junior connected for his 16th score of the year as he tipped in a pass from Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) 2:48 into the period. Corbin McPherson (Folsom, Calif.) also assisted on the goal.

Colgate goalie, Bryan Bessette (Melrose, N.Y.) made 20 saves in the loss, while Carroll finished the evening with 29 stops.  The Raiders outshot the Crimson 31-23.

Colgate's power play failed to score on five man advantages, while Harvard went one of six.

The Raiders return to action Saturday evening as they travel to face 19th-ranked Dartmouth.  Opening face-off is set for 7 p.m. at Thompson Arena.
