Women's Hockey Weekly Release #7: On the Road Against Quinnipiac, #10 Princeton

Saturday, Nov. 21- at Princeton, 4 p.m.


The Raiders will be on the road this weekend facing two ECAC opponents, Quinnipiac and No. 10 Princeton.  Colgate will first take on the Bobcats on Friday, Nov. 20 in Hamden, Conn., at 7 p.m.  The Raiders will then face Princeton the following day, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. in Princeton, N.J.


SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Quinnipiac
The Bobcats enter the weekend 6-4-2 overall with a conference mark of 4-1-1 and a home record of 3-2-0.  Quinnipiac took on Harvard and Dartmouth last, splitting the weekend with a 2-1 win against the Big Green and a 7-2 road loss against the Crimson.  The Bobcats have won four of their last six games, with their only loss coming against Harvard and finishing in a draw against Brown.  Freshman Heather Hughes currently leads Quinnipiac in scoring with eight points off a team-high five goals as well as three assists.  Senior Janine Duffy also has five goals, and two assists for seven points, tied with sophomore defender Bethany Dymarczyk, who has four goals and three assists for seven points.  Freshman Victoria Vigilanti has been the Bobcats top goaltender tallying a 5-4-2 record with a save percentage of .939 and a goals against average of 1.57.  Rick Seeley is in his second season as Quinnipiac's head coach after tallying a record of 3-26-5 in his first season with the Bobcats.  Seeley was previously the head coach for fellow ECAC opponent Clarkson.

Princeton
The Tigers are currently 5-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference with a home record of 1-0-1 this season.  Princeton has won their last four of five games with their last loss coming to Dartmouth, 4-1, on Nov. 13th.  The Tigers bounced back from that ECAC loss to defeat Harvard 2-1 on Nov. 14.  Sophomore Danielle DeCesare heads Princeton's offense with 12 points off of four goals and a team-high eight assists.  Classmate Heather Landry leads the squad in goal-scoring with six goals.  Landry and fellow sophomore Paula Romanchuk each have nine points, with Landry adding three assists to her goal total and Romanchuk collecting three goals and six assists.  Freshman Cassie Seguin and sophomore Rachel Weber have split time between the posts.  Seguin has a 2-1-1 record, including two shutouts and a .918 save percentage.  Weber is 3-1-0 on the year with a .877 save percentage and goals against average of 2.02.  Head coach Jeff Kampersal is in his 14th season with the Tigers women's hockey program, accumulating an overall record of 204-156-36. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders earned a tie and a loss last weekend as they faced two in-state foes, St. Lawrence and Clarkson.  Colgate tied the Saints, 2-2, on Friday before falling to the second ranked Golden Knights, 4-1, on Saturday.  Senior captain Marissa Dombovy (Webster, N.Y.) had a goal in each match-up, including the Raiders lone goal against Clarkson.  Freshman Brittany Phillips (Lauder, Man.) scored the Raiders second goal in the draw against the Saints.  Goalie Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) earned the tie, coming up with 27 stops for the Raiders. Sophomore Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) made 26 saves in the loss to Clarkson. 

LAST TIME AGAINST…
Quinnipiac
Colgate leads the all-time series against Quinnipiac 13-1-2 after splitting last year's series against the Bobcats.  Colgate dropped the first game of the season series, 3-2, but defeated Quinnipiac on the road a few months later, 4-1, on Feb. 7.  Marissa Dombovy
led the Raiders in the win with two goals, while Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) and Kate Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) each added one. Kimberly Sass made 25 saves for the win. 

Princeton
The Tigers hold the lead in the all-time series against the Raiders, 15-3-2, with Colgate splitting the series during the 2008-09 season.  The Raiders defeated Princeton in their first meeting on Nov. 8 of last year, 3-1, but fell to the Tigers on the road by the same score, 3-1.  This time Katie Stewart led the Raiders offense against the Tigers, recording two goals, while Nicole McDonald (Calgary, Alta.) put in the third. Kimberly Sass recorded a career-high 46 saves for the victory.

PRESEASON PICKS
The Raiders were selected to finish eighth in the ECAC Hockey Preseason Poll as chosen by conference coaches. The Raiders received a total of 52 votes, while top-choice St. Lawrence grabbed the No. 1 spot with 107 votes including three first place votes.

COACH WILEY
Head coach Scott Wiley is in his eighth season at the helm of the Raiders women's hockey program. He currently holds a Colgate career record of 106-125-28. Wiley led last year's team to a school record 19 wins, including an eight-game unbeaten streak in January. The 2003-04 ECAC Coach of the Year has high hopes for this year's team and will look to make this eighth straight ECAC playoff appearance.

LEADING THE WAY
Katie Stewart
leads the way for the Raiders in both points and goals, tallying ten points and five goals thus far. Classmate Evan Minnick (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) has eight points off of four goals and four assists, while fellow senior Ali Edell (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) leads the team in assists with six. Freshman Brittany Phillips (Lauder, Man.) leads the rookie class in scoring, lighting the lamp five times and adding one assist for six points. Kimberly Sass and Lisa Plenderleith each hold a 1-4-1 record, with Plenderleith recording one shutout.  Sass carries a .864 save percentage and a goals against average of 4.30.  Plenderleith holds a .897 save percentage and a 2.89 goals against average.   

UP NEXT
The Raiders will play three non-conference games starting with a home game against Syracuse University on Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.  Colgate will then take on top ranked Mercyhurst College on Nov. 27th and 28th in Erie, Pa.
