HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/30/09) – Kurtis Bartliff (Clinton, Ont.) posted his first career multi-point game and
Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) made a game saving play in overtime as Colgate and Army battled to a 4-4 tie, Friday evening in non-conference hockey action at Starr Rink.
Both teams had opportunities in overtime to post a victory. The Black Knights opened the extra session with a 35-second power play that carried over from the third period as well as a well as having another power play opportunity that lasted 1:38. Colgate's chance came when Marcel Alvarez was sent to the box for holding at 2:53 of overtime. While Colgate out shot the Black Knights 7-2 in the extra five minutes, Army had the golden opportunity with about three minutes left. Bryant Skarda fired a puck towards the cage and
Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) made the initial save. The puck trickled by Evin and appeared like it was ready to cross the goal line, but Day skated through the crease and saved the puck before it went into the cage.
Colgate opened scoring with 35 seconds left in the opening period as
Jeremy Price (Milton, Ont.) cashed in on his first collegiate goal from Bartliff and
Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Quebec). Colgate led 1-0 at the first intermission.
The Black Knights knotted the game at 1-1 as Alvarez beat Evin only 14 seconds into a man advantage 28 ticks into the period.
It didn't take long for the Raiders to regain the lead, 81 seconds later to be exact, as
Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) banged home his first of the year off a rebound.
Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.) and
Robbie Bourdon (Ile Bizard, Que.) were credited with assists.
After Skarda tied the game at 2-2 with his third of the year at 7:16, Day gave the Raiders their third lead of the contest with his fourth of the year at 15:11 from
David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) and
Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas). Army scored the last goal of the second period at 17:37 as Andy Starczewski poked home a rebound off an initial shot from Cody Ikkala.
Nick Prockow (Montreal, Que.) netted his first of the year at 6:49 of the third from Bartliff and
Mike Leidl (Fort St. James, B.C.) as Colgate grabbed its fourth lead of the evening. Army tied the contest with 2:38 left as Mike Santeee found the back of the net for his first of the year.
Colgate out shot Army 42-25 on the evening. Black Knight netminder Joe Spracklen made 38 saves, while Evin stopped 21.
The Raiders return to action Saturday evening as they host Niagara. Opening face-off is set for an 8 p.m. start at Starr Rink.
