Colgate Men Fall at #13 UMass-Lowell

Robbie Bourdon netted his first collegiate goal in the loss at UML.

LOWELL, MASS. (10/23/09) – Scott Campbell scored twice and dished off an assist as 13th-ranked UMass-Lowell rallied from a one-goal deficit to defeat visiting Colgate 5-3 in men's hockey action, Friday evening at Tsongas Arena.

The River Hawks, now 2-1 overall, scored three times in the matter of 2:55 in the third period.  Trailing 3-2, Campbell and Ryan Blair teamed up with Nick Schaus for a power play goal at 10:48 to knot the game at 3-3.  Colin Wright and David Vallorani tallied markers 33 seconds apart at 13:10 and 13:43 respectively to close the game's scoring.

UMass-Lowell opened the scoring in the first period as Campbell netted his first of the game on the power play at 4:18.  However, the Raiders' would tie the score at 7:09 as Christian Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) planted his second goal of the year from Matt Firman (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Adam Corrin (Winnipeg, Man.).  For Corrin, it was his first point at Colgate.

The River Hawks took a 2-1 lead into intermission thanks in part to Campbell's second goal of the game at 16:31.

Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.) got the equalizer for Colgate, his second of the year at 3:39 of the second period.  The Raiders headed into the second intermission holding a one-goal advantage.  At 14:53, a pair of freshman hooked up for the Raiders third goal on the evening as Robbie Bourdon (Ile Bizard, Que.) beat goalie Nevin Hamilton for his first collegiate goal from Thomas Larkin (Cocquio Trevisago, Italy).

Colgate's Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) made 30 saves in the loss, while Hamilton stopped 27 for UMass-Lowell.  The River Hawks finished two of five on the power play, while the Raiders failed to score on three attempts.

Colgate, 1-2-2 overall, returns to action Sunday afternoon as the U.S. National Under 18 team visits Starr Rink for an exhibition.  Opening face-off is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
