Colgate Falls In Overtime to Yale

Nick Prockow scored his first collegiate goal versus Yale
HAMILTON, N.Y.   (1/24/09) – Kevin Limbert's goal one minute into overtime led Yale to a 5-4 overtime victory over Colgate in an ECAC Hockey men's match-up, Saturday evening at Starr Rink.

Yale, now 13-5-1 overall and 8-3-1 in league play, erased a 4-0 deficit in the third period and sent the game into overtime with Sean Backman's 11th of the year with 2:03 left in the third.  The junior's shot, off a rebound, trickled by Colgate's goalie Alex Evin (Castlegar, B.C.) and barely crossed the goal line.

The Raiders appeared to have everything under control early in the third.  After a scoreless first period, Colgate got on the board at 1:35 of the second as freshman Nick Prockow (Montreal, Que.) slid a shot between goalie Ryan Rondeau's wickets for his first collegiate score from
Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.).

With Yale on the power play, Colgate got its fifth shorthanded goal of the year at 12:24 as Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) and Jason Fredericks (Eagle River, Wisc.) got the puck to David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) and on the break away, the junior buried the puck by Rondeau  for his 13th of the year.  Colgate took a 2-0 lead into the third.

The Raiders struck early in the final period of regulation as Nick St. Pierre (St. Etienne, Que.) blasted a shot from the point at 1:35 for his first goal of the campaign from Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas) and Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.).  The lead increased by one at 5:15 as Brian Day (Danvers, Mass.) collected his 10th of the year off the draw in the Yale zone from
Tom Riley (Ottawa, Ont.).

Down four, Yale opened its scoring at 7:23 as Tom Dignard collected his first of two goals on the evening from Mark Arcobello.  Three minutes later, on the power play, Dignard assisted on Broc Little's 11th marker of the season to chop the deficit in half.  With Mike Matczak in the box, and almost a minute after the sophomore's goal, Dignard struck again at 11:48 from Denny Kearney.  It was the first shorthanded goal allowed by Colgate all season.

Yale outshot Colgate 46-16.  Evin collected a career-high 41 saves, besting his former season-high of 33 set the previous night versus Brown.  The freshman made 15 saves in each the second and third period. Rondeau saved nine shots before being chased by Day's goal a little over five minutes into the third.  Alec Richards, who made three saves in 15:27 of action, tallied three saves and got credit with the victory.

Colgate returns to action, next Friday evening as it travels to face Clarkson.  Opening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
