PROVIDENCE, R.I. (1/23/09) – Sophomore goaltender Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) made 18 saves for her first shutout of the season and senior forward Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) recorded two assists to break the Colgate record as the women's hockey team beat Brown 5-0 Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. The win extended the Raiders winning streak to five games.

Colgate (13-9-2, 7-4-2) scored three even strength goals, one power-play and one shorthanded while Plenderleith held the Bears scoreless to secure her second career shutout.

Junior Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) opened the scoring 13:39 into in the first period with an assist from Hunt and sophomore Jessi Waters (Menlo Park, Calif.). Junior Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) would record Colgate's first shorthanded goal of the season two-minutes later to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead through the first. Stewart's goal was assisted by Hunt and junior Evan Minnick (Highlands Ranch, Colo.). For Hunt this was her 61st career assist snapping the Colgate division I record of 60 set by former teammate Tara French '07. With two points on the night Hunt also extended her current scoring streak to seven points in five games.

Senior Clancy Todd (Thorold, Ont.) gave Colgate a three goal cushion off a power-play goal at the 9:41 mark of the second period. Todd was assisted by Minnick and sophomore Jacquie Colborne (Calgary, Alta.).  Senior Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) would make it 4-0 three minutes later with an even strength goal. Brown was assisted by Stewart and freshman Amanda Kirwan (Mississauga, Ont.). Stewart also extended her team leading scoring streak to 16 points in the last 14 games.

Minnick opened the third period with her 10th goal of the season to give Colgate a 5-0 lead and that was more than enough for Plenderleith who recorded the first shutout for the Raiders this season. Minnick's goal was assisted by senior Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.). With the assist Dosdall set a new Colgate season record of 23 points by a defenseman, passing French's record of 22. Plenderleith's shutout is the second of her career and the first for Colgate since her shutout of Niagara 3-0 on Dec. 7, 2007.

Brown (3-15-1, 2-10) had one highlight on the night and that came in the third period when goaltender Nicole Stock made her 2,491st save of her career passing the Bears record of 2,490. Stock finished the night with 45 saves to increase her career total to 2,497.

Colgate out-shot the Bears 50-18. The Raiders went 1-7 on the power-play and was a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

Colgate returns to action tomorrow Saturday, Jan. 24 at Yale. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
