HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/2/2009) – Junior Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) recorded her fourth goal of the season early in the third, but it wasn't enough as the Colgate University women's hockey team lost to Boston College 3-1 Friday evening at Starr Rink.
Boston College, ranked seventh in the latest national polls, opened the scoring mid-way through the second when Mary Restuccia slid one by freshman goaltender Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.). Allie Thurston had control of the puck behind Sass and was able to find Restuccia all alone in front of the net at the 8:40 mark. Maggie Taverna was also credited with an assist. The Eagles added their second goal 37 seconds later as Becky Zavisza found the back of the net off an assist from Meghan Fardelman.
Boston College out-shot the Raiders 24-14 in the opening periods to carry a 2-0 lead into the third.

Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.). The goal trimmed the Eagles' lead to 2-1 with just over 17 minutes remaining. The Raiders had plenty opportunities to tie the score including a shot from sophomore
Hannah Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.) that was reviewed and ruled a no goal by the officials with just under three-minutes left.
The Raiders pulled Sass with 40 seconds remaining and it led to an empty net goal by Danielle Welch five seconds later to give Boston College its first win at Colgate.
The Eagles out-shot Colgate 32-28 for the game. Sass made 29 saves in the loss while Schaus recorded 27 for Boston College. Colgate finished 0-7 on the power play, snapping an 18-game scoring streak, while the Eagles went 0-5.
Colgate 8-9-2 overall returns to action next Saturday(Jan. 10) as it travels to Ithaca for the first game of a home and home series with Cornell. The contest is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
