SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (1/17/09) – David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) scored twice and dished off an assist, but it wasn't enough as Union downed Colgate 6-3 in an ECAC Hockey men's match-up, Saturday evening at Messa Rink.
The Dutchmen scored three unanswered goals in the third period to improve to 12-9-1 (5-5 in ECAC), while Colgate slipped to 6-11-5 (1-6-3 in league play).
Down 3-1 in the second period, the Raiders pulled within 3-2 as Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) netted his second goal of the weekend, on the power play at 17:06 from Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.) and McIntyre. It was the junior's fourth of the year.
The Raiders knotted the game at 5:02 of the third as McIntyre collected his second of the evening and 12th of the year from Austin Smith (Dallas, Texas). The junior finished the weekend with three goals and two assists.
Union took the lead for good less than four minutes later as Luke Cain beat Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) at 8:44. The lead increased back up to two at 5-3 as Mario Valery-Trabucco converted on a power play at 13:22. Matt Simpson finished off the scoring at 19:14 on an empty net goal.
The Dutchmen grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a power play goal from Stephane Boileau 2:03 into the contest. At 15:17, David Sloane (Ambler, Pa.) and Peter Bogdanich (Burnaby, B.C.) teamed up with McIntyre as the junior deposited his shot behind Corey Milan for his first of the evening. However, at 16:15, Matt Cook answered McIntyre's goal and gave Union the 2-1 lead heading into intermission.
Colgate capitalized on one of four power play opportunities, while Union converted on two of six man advantage situations.
Long saved 32 shots in the loss for Colgate. Milan saved 24 in a winning effort for the Dutchmen. Union outshot the Raiders 38-27.
The Raiders return to action, Friday evening as they host Brown. The game, which will be broadcasted over Time Warner Sports, is set for a 7 p.m. opening face-off.
