Colgate Men Fall In Overtime To Rensselaer

David McIntyre netted his 10th goal of the season
TROY, N.Y. (1/16/09)  – Seth Klerer netted his second goal of the game in the first minute of overtime to lead Rensselaer to a 3-2 victory over Colgate, Friday evening in ECAC men's hockey action at Houston Field House.

The Engineers, 5-16-2 overall/4-5-1 in conference, took advantage of a too many men on the ice penalty called right before the end of the third period.  Klerer sent Rensselaer home with the victory 42 seconds into the extra session.  It was Colgate's ninth overtime game of the year and sixth in its last eight overall.

The Engineers took the lead at 17:28 in the first as Alex Angers-Goulet opened scoring from Kurt Collins and Matt Angers-Goulet.

Trailing 1-0, the Raiders got the equalizer with 54 seconds left in the period on the power play as Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) tallied his third goal of the year from Jason Fredricks (Eagle River, Wisc.) and David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.).  For Fredricks, it was his fourth point in three games.

Down 2-1 in the third period, Colgate knotted the game once again on the power play.  Nick St. Pierre (St. Etienne, Que.) assisted on McIntyre's 10th goal of the year at 8:47.  The Raiders were two of seven on the power play, while Rensselaer went one of seven.

Charles Long (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) saved 19 of 22 shots in the loss for the Raiders, while Mattias Lange collected 20 saves.

Colgate, now 6-10-5 overall/1-5-3 in ECAC Hockey, returns to action Saturday evening as it plays at Union.  Opening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
