Men's Soccer Falls 3-0 to Syracuse

Vichengrad makes six saves including penalty


HAMILTON - The Raiders fell 3-0 to intrastate rival, Syracuse, on Tuesday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
  • Gavin Vichengrad made his first save of the night in the 17th minute to keep the Orange out.
  • Cole Ramey nearly put the Raiders ahead in the 32nd minute with a shot towards the lower left corner but it was saved by Syracuse.
  • Colgate led Syracuse in shots on goal in the first half, 3-1.
  • The visitors took the lead early in the second half after a corner kick fell to the top of the 18-yard box and was volleyed in.
  • After the Raiders gave up a penalty, Vichengrad was able to come up with a massive stop to keep Colgate within one.
  • Syracuse took a 2-0 lead on a free kick in the 77th minute.
  • Colgate thought they were able to get a goal back through a goal from Connor Cates, however, after VAR (video assistant referee) was called upon by the Syracuse coach, the goal was taken away due to a foul in the buildup.
  • Moments later, Cole Ramey found the back of the net for the Raiders but that goal was called back for offside after a VAR check.
  • With just 13 seconds left, Syracuse scored a third goal.
NOTES
  • Vichengrad made six saves in net for the Raiders.
  • Alex St. John and Spencer Osborne led Colgate with two shots apiece.
  • Julian Di Lucia made his return after missing two matches and finished with a full 90 minutes.
  • The Raiders had two goals taken off the board after VAR checks.
