Raiders Compete in Virginia and Albany

Droege breaks program record in 10,000 meter

HAMILTON - Colgate's track and field teams split up their athletes to compete at both the UAlbany Spring Classic on Friday and the Virginia Challenge on Friday and Saturday.

Colgate had multiple athletes from each race take home gold. The UAlbany Spring Classic highlighted first-place finishes from Ava Kletti (5000m) and Whitney Smith (javelin throw) on the women's side, and Dakin Ebmeyer (1500m). 

In a tough field of competitors, Nell Droege set a program record in the 10,000 meter with a time of  35:42.95 and managed a silver finish (10000m), while Melinda Haagensen earned third (pole vault).

UAlbany Spring Classic

WOMEN


Anna Moore, Alicia Weimer, and Emma Klina placed sixth through eighth, respectively, in the 1500m run. First-year, Sisi Elkinson, also gained experience in the event.

Oonagh Last found tenth in the 400m out of 19 entries.

Alise Turner and Elizabeth Manly represented Colgate in the 100m hurdles. Manly and Turner also competed in the 200m with Caroline Kosich.

Linden Cafcules broke into the top ten with an eighth place finish in the 800m (2:18.94). Chloe Schiller and Dolores Maxwell also ran in the event.

Ava Kletti found a gold medal in the 5000m with her winning time of 18:13.61. Lucia Pew finished in second with a final time of 18:29.18. Frances Munger and Penelope Schenkel ran to fourth and sixth place, respectively.

Manly, Turners Kosich, and Last raced in the 4x400m relay.

Whitney Smith earned another gold for the women as her javelin throw (29.39m) cleared the rest of the competition. 

Samantha Pellerin also competed in the javelin throw for fourth place, which was followed by her performance in the hammer throw.

Sonia Erbe jumped her way to sixth (1.51m) in the high jump.

Taylor Gearhart placed ninth in the discus throw with a throw of 26.35m.

MEN

Dakin Ebmeyer took home first in the 1500m with his time of 3:50.86. Shortly after, Nick Larson crossed to clinch a bronze finish for the Raiders (3:58.35). Jackson Vogel, Owen DeMatt, Mason Telatnik, and Fineley Tobin, also finished within the ten athletes in the event.

Daniel Olabanji ran the 100m dash in 11.31s, earning him a tenth palace finish. Will Terry crossed the line after Olabanji for 12th place. Terry and Olabanji also dashed in the 200m.

Finn Kosich and Tyler Robinson finished the 800m in 1:56.25 and 1:56.47, respectively, to place sixth and seventh. Jack Gabrielle managed a tenth place finish after the duo. Josh Myers, Ryan WIlson, Gabe Kramer-Griffith, and Tobin represented the Raiders as well.

Colgate found success in the 5000m run, with Dylan DeCicco (14:58.14) earning a silver medal, followed by Owen McMorrow (14:59.93) for bronze. Liam Burgess placed fourth, while Thomas Rivier trailed at fifth. Michael Doyle tied with an unattached runner for seventh, which left Max Kahn at ninth.

DeCicco also earned a fourth place finish in the 110m hurdles with his time of 15.14s.

Ebmeyer, Tobin, Myers, and Gabrielle rallied together for the 4x400m relay.

Joel Douzanis finished ninth in the hammer throw with a throw of 39.83m. Douzanis went on to take third in the shot put with his throw of 14.49m.

Another silver medal was acquired by Travis Rusak in the javelin throw (53.23m).

Jed Guenthner jumped in the long jump for Colgate.

Christian Radic had a discus throw of 31.32m to place tenth and an eighth place finish in the shot put..

Virginia Challenge

WOMEN


Nell Droege ran the 10000m in 35:42.95, earning a silver medal for Colgate.

Melinda Haagensen also brought home a medal for the Raiders as her pole vault leap of 3.90m landed her in third place.

Audrey Luell, Ashley Crane, and Emma Bergfalk all competed in the 1500m.

Kiran George had a jump of 1.67m in the high jump invite.

MEN

John Griffith placed seventh (9:19.28) in the 3000m steeplechase.

John Shapiro represented Colgate in the 1500m, finishing with a time of 3:59.56.

Sammy Heaven ran the 400m hurdles in 56.24s, earning a personal best.

Roman Steis finished the 10000m in 31:51.69 for a seventh place finish.

The Raiders will find themselves in Philadelphia, Pa. for the Penn Relays starting on Thursday, April 23, through Saturday, April 25.
