Raiders Compete at Big Red Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Raiders' track and field teams traveled to Ithaca, N.Y. to compete at the Big Red Invitational on both Saturday and Sunday.

COACH FRANCE'S COMMENTS
"The meet at Cornell was a great building block for where we are in the season right now. It gave us a strong opportunity to compete, sharpen up, and take away some positives as we continue to build momentum for the big competitions ahead. Overall, it was a solid step forward and a good indicator that we're heading in the right direction."

MEN

The men had a second place finish in the 4x100 relay, where Daniel Olabanji, Simon Connors, Marcus Chu, and Jeffory Groth completed the sequence in 41.77s.

The 4x400 relay also found success as Sammy Heaven, Joshua Antoine, Will Terry, and Chu took home gold with a final time of 3:20.72. The second team of Henry Gaylord, Josh Myers, Finn Kosich, and Jack Gabrielle clinched a third place finish with their time of 3:29.32.

Heaven also represented the Raiders in the 400m hurdles, taking home a bronze finish with his time of 56.40.

Groth made it into the top ten of the 100m by placing tenth with a time of 10.77s. Connors logged a time of 11.10s in the 100m, and 22.89s in the 200m. Olabanji also competed in the 200m, clocking in with a time of 23.12s.

Chu took ninth in the 400m after finishing in 50.47s, followed by Terry (51.43s) and Myers (52.45s).

Kosich and Gabrielle earned fifth (1:57.78) and sixth (1:57.84), respectively, while Finely Tobin, Michael Doyle, Ryan Wilson, and Gabriel Kramer-Griffith crossed after them.

Tyler Robinson placed sixth (4:00.86) and Gaylord finished seventh (4:00.96) in the 1500m. There were nine other athletes who represented Colgate in the event as well.

Samuel Epstein had a pole vault of 4.60m that put him in fourth place out of 13 other jumpers.

Jed Guenthner had a leap of 5.80m in the long jump. Guenthner found success in the shot put as he placed third with his throw of 13.78m, followed by Christian Radic and Jack Latson's throws.

Travis Rusak secured a second place finish in the javelin throw with his throw of 50.98m.

WOMEN

Elizabeth Manly, Chloe Schiller, Ashley Crane, and Juliet Drury ran the 4x400 relay, where they placed fourth with a time of 4:14.81.

Drury later raced in the 1500m, where she clinched fifth place with a time of 4:46.92. Linden Cafcules followed right after Drury, clocking in at 4:47.38 to earn sixth out of 34 runners. Dolores Maxwell, Anna Moore, Emma Klina, Alicia Weimer, and Sisi Elkinson also gained experience in the 1500m.

Caroline Kosich ran the 100m in 13.03s, while Kiran George and Alise Turner jumped the 100m hurdles in 14.59s and 15.19s, respectively. Manly also raced in the 100m hurdles.

Crane and Schiller also competed in the 800m, finishing with times of 2:18.34 for sixth and 2.24.94 for ninth place, respectively. Maxwell also ran in the event, earning 12th with a time of 2:31.47.

Abby Poplawski, Frances Munger, and Penelope Schenkel were the only entries in the 5000m. Poplawski finished first in 19:18.08, followed by Munger (19:24.60), then Schenkel (19:33.46).

Kiran George jumped her way to third place in the high jump with a leap of 1.67m. Sonia Erbe had a jump of 1.53 in the event.

Melinda Haagensen logged a vault of 3.81m, placing herself into fourth place.

Turner and Manly also jumped in the long jump and logged in a leap of 4.90m and 4.26m, respectively.

Taylor Gearheart placed 12th with a throw of 26.68m in the discus throw. In the javelin throw, Whitney Smith (29.55m) earned sixth and Samantha Pellerin (28.69) finished ninth.

Colgate's track and field teams will compete in the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. The teams will also take part in the UAlbany Spring Classic on Friday, April 17.
