Women place seventh, men take ninth in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – MG King captured the 200-yard backstroke title Saturday at the Patriot League Championship inside Navy's Lejeune Hall, becoming Colgate's first gold medalist since 2013 and leading the Raiders to a seventh-place team finish.

COACH PRETRE'S COMMENTS

"Let's start with MG's race. After a few speed bumps during the meet, MG shook it off, got back to the basics, hit the reset button, and just swam a perfectly executed race. MG felt the easy speed for the first 100, and just took it to another level on the back 100 with some beautiful underwaters. Well deserved!

"I'm so proud of this team. We had a blast this season. The fact that we were down on point scorers for both teams and they both moved up a spot this year really says something about what they are building, and most importantly, what they believe. Thanks for a great season, Raiders!"

HOW IT HAPPENED

King touched in 1:56.51, a full second ahead of the field to strike gold in the 200 Back. King is the program's first individual champion since Emma Santoro '13 won the 400 IM in 2013 and Colgate's first 200 backstroke winner since Lia Kunnapas '13 in 2012.

Colgate's women finished seventh with 611 points, matching its best championship showing since 2020. The men placed ninth with 345 points.

Audrey Collins paced the Raiders with 74 points over the four-day championship, good for 13th-best overall. Paige Fisher's 64 points were 22nd-best in the field. King and Katie Miller finished with 55 and 54 points, respectively, good for 36th and 37th best overall.

Miller paced the distance group with a 10th-place finish in the 1650 free (17:10.25). Meg Erickson took 21st, while Olivia Waugh and Nicole Ben-David placed 26th and 27th.

In the 200 breast, Fisher (2:16.50) and Natalie Hofer (2:17.60) reached the A final and finished sixth and seventh. Addisyn Donfriss added 13 points with a 14th-place swim in the 200 fly (2:05.04).

On the men's side, Michael Granin broke the program record in the 200 breast (2:02.64) to place 20th, followed by Andrew Mazzacano (22nd) and Connor O'Neill (23rd).

David Brophy also set a school record in the 200 fly, clocking 1:46.98—two seconds faster than his prelim mark—to finish ninth and score 20 points.

Over the four-day championship, Brophy led the Raiders with 47 points scored to land in 46th overall. Nick Pompo added 23 points from the diving board, just ahead of his teammate Michael Granin who posted 21 points to finish in the top 100.
