Raiders split pair of matches on the weekend

SYRACUSE, N.Y. The Raiders hit the road to take on Siena, where they picked up their first win of the Prohaska era with a 4-1 win. They then returned home on Sunday, where they fell 4-2 to Niagara.

COACH PROHASKA'S COMMENTS
"Great fight from this group the entire weekend. We were tentative in doubles to start the weekend against Siena, but held on and showed great resiliency against a tough and confident Siena team. We came out aggressive and confident in doubles today against Niagara and really put ourselves in a great position. Credit to Niagara, as they stayed patient, composed, and gave little margin for error for us in singles. A lot to be proud of and certainly some areas for reflection. We have a great weekend slate of matches this weekend with Wagner and Villanova. I'm looking forward to seeing how we mentally approach this week and we bounce back."

COLGATE 4 - SIENA 1

Play opened with a hotly contested doubles point, where Siena drew first blood taking court two 6-3 over senior captain Sasha Herman and junior Carina Cristobal. However, the Raiders would bounce back with two critical 7-5 wins by sophomore Rebecca Hess and junior Avery Isaac at line three, along with senior captain Amelia Galin and junior Sophia Montero at line one.

Siena was able to take a point back on court three over Hess, but it would be all Raiders from then on. Montero won on court two 6-3, 6-4, shortly followed by Galin on court one, 7-5, 7-5. Sophomore Anya Kunar was able to clinch the matchup for the Raiders, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in come from behind fashion.

COLGATE 2 - NIAGARA 4
Colgate was able to take the doubles point led by the same partnerships as Saturday, with Galin/Montero winning 7-5 and Hess/Isaac winning 6-4, but Niagara proved a formidable opponent in singles action. The only other Raiders point would come from first-year Caroline Brown, who did not drop a single game at line six, winning 6-0, 6-0. Cristobal was just starting her third set at line five when play was called after Niagara clinched.

The Raiders return to action on Friday, where they will travel to Staten Island to take on Wagner at 12:30 p.m.
