St. John Lifts Colgate over Navy

Vichengrad makes nine saves in net

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Alex St. John's brace helped lift Colgate to its first Patriot League win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Navy at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

COACH RONNING'S COMMENTS
"It was a strong all around performance with contributions from guys up and down the roster. Navy pushed us for big stretches of the game but our group was able to stay focused and show their attacking quality in key moments. There were a lot of positives out of today's match and some key areas for us to keep improving as we move forward."

MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
  • The Raiders started fast with a goal from St. John off an assist from Connor Cates and Blake Pipkin.
  • Just before the 40th minute, Ryan Schachter buried a cross from Charlie Yates to make it 2-0 at halftime.
  • The Raiders and the Mids were equal on shots with six apiece in the first half.
  • St. John scored a highlight reel goal off a cross from Pipkin in the 68th minute. The junior took the cross off his chest, sending the Navy defender in the wrong direction before calmly tucking the ball into the bottom right corner.
  • Malik Samms added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to make it 4-1.
NOTES
  • St. John scored his first goal since Oct. 4, 2025 also against Navy.
  • Schachter scored his second of the season and first career game-winning goal.
  • Gavin Vichengrad made nine saves in net, a career high for the first-year.
  • Pipkin posted two assists in the win.
  • Samms scored his first career Colgate goal.
