Raiders Fall to Loyola in Final Seconds

Colgate overcomes 15-point deficit before falling in final seconds, 49-47

HAMILTON —
Colgate's second-half comeback was one basket short of pushing for overtime, ultimately falling 49–47 to Loyola on Kids Day.

Even though the Raiders scored a season-best nine three-pointers in the game, the Greyhounds were able to garner 12 of 14 points from the free-throw line and collect 10 steals to secure the two-point victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate was cold for the first four minutes as Loyola went up early in the count, 6–0. Within that span, Christina Midgette, Madison Schiller, and Grace Klag caused a turnover that finally led to a Raiders basket, compliments of Klag. The Greyhounds hit a three, followed by Schiller matching Loyola's energy with one for the Raiders. Loyola had another quick 6–0 scoring burst to lead 15–5 after the first 10 minutes.

Colgate and Loyola traded baskets evenly in the second quarter, each scoring 12 points. TThe Greyhounds jumped out to a 5–0 run, but the Raiders matched their five with a power move in the paint by Klag and Lara Cook's first three-pointer of the game. Despite Ella Meabon's efforts from beyond the arc, the Greyhounds maintained their edge, with Whitley Watkins capping the scoring for Loyola with a layup, matched by Kennedy Parrott's jumper for the Raiders. The quarter ended with the teams locked in a tie, with Loyola holding a 10-point cushion, 27–17.

A mirror image of the second quarter, as both sides each put up 12 points. Loyola's Koi Sims opened the scoring with a layup, as Schiller responded with one of her own. Meabon and Cook knocked down critical threes in the quarter to keep the offense rolling for the Raiders. The Greyhounds capitalized on free throws and a last-second layup, setting the score at 39–29 in favor of Loyola heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter, the Raiders mounted a strong comeback attempt, with Schiller hitting a significant three-pointer to cut the deficit to two points with just 46 seconds remaining. Schiller totaled 3 for 9 from beyond the arc. Meabon then contributed a layup with 10 seconds left to tie the game at 47–47. However, the Greyhounds responded with a layup at the seven-second mark, securing a 49–47 victory.
